The Chinese Are Coming - CFMOTO 650NK - A 650cc Motorcycle for Under £4,000

I remember my dad saying to me in the 1970’s that these Japanese motorcycles wont last five minutes, they’ll never catch on. Well, it seems that history does repeat itself. This time it’s the Chinese Motorcycles, they are here and they are getting better and better. Bang for buck, these bikes are now serious contenders and the European and Japanese manufacturers ignore them at their peril.
This CFMOTO 650NK may not be quite as good as others in its class, but it’s not far off and at £3,999, it’s cheaper than a lot of holidays. It doesn’t do anything exceptional but it doesn’t do anything badly either. If you can put your politics aside, go and give one a go, you could save yourself a fortune.

I had an MT650 which I covered 7k miles in just under two years. It never missed a beat. Those switches are backlit if you didn't know. All that for less than £4K.

My mate works in bike shop that sells CF Moto & HE said they're really good.The one to get HE said is the CF Moto CL 700 it's got alot more power for only 50cc more & is a rocket he said. Also said the CF Moto 700CL-X ADV is a steal & comes fully loaded for its price.The 700 engine used is the same engine used by KTM 690 & CF Moto actually makes the KTM 690-790 engines under license & can use them in their own bikes. Have said the MT450 is great & a steal too.Only issue would be resale value I reckon.

I assume if people stay as happy as they are now, the resale value will start stabilizing. I paid 3,999 USD for mine new, and I see used ones with thousands of miles for more, Lol. I don't know exactly when that started happening, but somehow, it's possible to buy and sell a new bike and make a profit. 😮

Cheap cheap cheap. That's all we hear . Purchase price is only part of the overall running cost . Chop Fooey Motos for cheap foo'ng motorcyclists . I won't put Chinese bearings in any motorcycle I own . I've had too many failures in the past . Chinese made KTM and BMW engines are getting a reputation for poor quality . So sorry I can't jump on the "fan boy " bandwagon for Chinese junks and send my hard earned money to bolster the Chinese economy .

Have to credit Chinese manufacturers.Nice little bike, cheap as chips all other manufacturers are doomed they can't compete with labour and energy costs. We sell China plenty of cheap coal to keep energy cost down, we dont like burning it ourselves apparently, ironic really. Oz roads are loaded with affordable Chinese made cars bikes r sure to follow. They're probably the best Chinese brand but resale value be bugger all at moment & next few years but could change when word gets out about there reliablility.Vinnie sells them & likes them & said the 700CL & 700CL-X use the KTM engine as they build the KTM 690 engine under license. The 700CL-X ADV comes fully loaded too & thousands cheaper than other ADV bikes. People harp on about KTM 690-790 same motor.Vinnie reckons the CF Moto CL 700 & CL-X is a great bike especially for the money.

A lot of the big name motorcycle manufacturers ,source components , engines & even have full motorcycles built in China . Company’s like Honda , Yamaha , Suzuki , BMW & others . The Chinese have the latest tech & resources to build to any quality & price point the customer or partner company requires .

The graphics on the lower tank panel made it look like it had been dropped or thrown down the road. As you left Lings and went round the roundabout, the dealers you passed on the right (Weatherleys) is where I got my Softail from (very nice people there).

Morning,it certainly is a bargain at that price,and i suppose depreciation doesn't really matter if you keep one a few years as it will always be worth £1500. The problem with ownership would be the supply of parts. I just had a quick look at what was available and apart from a stockist called quadzilla uk there isn't many available part's listed for sale! The prices are pretty high too,air filter £40, front brake lever just over £100 as two examples. If you had a low speed crash,you could be waiting quite along time for part's compared with the availability of spares for Japanese bike's. There's too many different models for a UK stockist to be able to supply everything from stock,so until that changes as much as i like the tempting price i wouldn't be buying one 🤔

Our Blood Bikes have just got two 800MT’s TAYM, they seem to be ok bikes so far, they’ll get a good test because we do lots of miles. They’re powered by KTM engines and the UK dealerships are overseen now by KTM.

Here in the US the local CFMoto dealer is advertising the 650 ADVentura with luggage for $3999 US. I wonder if they’re phasing out the models that use the Kawasaki-derived engine. Seems a lot of the 650’s are selling at bargain prices. I’ve tried to avoid going to the shop to look at it-I don’t need any more.bikes!

I remember when they came out here in Aus in the late 2000s. Folks would say the engine was a Kawasaki copy ... but knowing other manufacturing industries I wondered if the Kawa engine was built by a factory which also produces CFmotos .... then 790 anf 890 KTMs. I now wonder if all of these parallel twins are produced by some mega factory and just "tweaked" fot each brand. Eg mt07s, the new SVs, hornets etc. If these companies can buy an engine cheaper than it costs to run their own factory ... why wouldn't they? Same thing has been the go in mountainbikes for years.

It seems not a bad bike for the money, perhaps a little on the hefty side at 206kg for a 650. It looks like any other 650 on the market but I don't like the tank decals, they seem to make it look like it's been dropped.

Still 40 kg less than the shot gun and given it’s a wet weight, about the same as an interceptor 😁 it’s also the same as the triumph 660’s and 10kg lighter than the Kawasaki 650 versys and a bit more than the ninja and a whooping 18kg more than the z650 which it is based on 😂😂 thanks GW 😁

Good afternoon Mr TAYM. Good choice of bike for a blast around the lanes. It has the same engine as was in that Moto Morini Seiemmezzo I rode, certainly not lacking in oomph. I say same engine,as CFmoto supply them to other manufacturers, including Moto Morini. Bear in mind that CFmoto also make engines for KTM too. As for this bike, things like span adjustable handlebar levers, tft dash (all be it hard to see in bright sunlight), fitted as standard. Plus, a 4 year parts and labour warranty is not to be ignored. I just wish CFmoto had a dealer closer to me, not so much for taking for a test ride, but for servicing etc. Over an hour away, is not close enough, especially if it wouldn’t fit in the van (thinking more about their larger bikes). The CFmoto 650 MT, is highly regarded, as a budget long distance tourer. What’s not to like ! Great review.

My mate sells CF Moto bikes Ian & said the newer 700 CL road & 700CL-X ADV are the bikes to get from CF Moto.Use the KTM 690 motor & he did a video when HE rode the Adv version & it was fully loaded to many options to list line a high end brand but thousands cheaper.HE couldn't believe how good it was & said if you thinking 🤔 about one look at the 700CL road bike or 700CL-X.

The 700CL-X is 73hp & 68Nm so 10-12hp more than 650 & weighs 205kg wet weight & cost 12k NZ. The 800 MT is even better if after a ADV bike my mate got to ride one for a week & loved it & costs 15.5k (£7750) & 95hp & 77Nm. The MT 800 Explore is the Creme de la Creme model Adv model with more features same 95hp & 77Nm & has a whopper 19L tank & has all the modern stuff & costs 17k NZ 🇳🇿 so £8500uk. Transalp 750 ADV 20k & next bike up.A Motoguzzi 850 Vtt cost 23k NZ.Then it jumps up in price to Triumphs Tiger 🐅 & Africa Twin which cost heaps. I have to travel 70-75mins max to closest Triumph Dealership but I live in countryside.A hour isn't to bad to travel.If I owned a Kawasaki or Suzuki only need to travel 20mins.

Not for me TAYM as you know I like my classic bikes & my newest one is 25 years old, I wonder about the longevity of these machines & of bikes in general with fuel injection systems ECU's & god knows what else electronic gadgetry being practical in long term ownership ? Having said all of that I think these Chinese bikes are the same type of threat as the Japanese bikes were to the British motorcycle industry ! Watch out all you other manufacturers the Chinese are coming for you !

The Japanese and other manus including RE need to check their mirrors as the chinese are coming. The more that are bought the more dealers will pop up. Bingley W just bought one. Cable speedo a joy to me easy fix. Bikes with no electronic gizmos are great news. There are many European vloggers raving about Italian/chinese bikes and some with 30k miles on. As a personal buy I’d be scared due to back up/ parts and dealers. Most bikers in uk a leisure motorcyclists and i have in the last gone in the garage and looked at my bikes when I had more than one and thought that’s 10k sat there being used occasionally and sold. I’ve always kept my cheaper bikes. People bought Skodas/ kia/ hyundai on price as they have a need. These brands are getting g a lot of social media publication. Beware others. Oh and the 4 yr warranty

As a past owner of 2012 cfmoto 650 (versys style engine ) naked at the time.. the only issue I had was poor quality bolts n plastic ....I moved to a 2018 versys 650 to have a more comfortable and wind protection... it wasn't really that much better quality but what latest cf motos are like is defo much better made.......and like enfields amazing value....

Morning TAYM, it's looking cracking weather down there! As for Chinese bikes I've mentioned previously my missus has got a Zontes GK125 and it's a brilliant bike , it's even got stainless steel spokes, which I'll say Enfield should have put on the Classic 350's to avoid the corrosive problem of the mild steel one's that's on them. Anyway yes the quality of the Chinese bikes has vastly improved, also there's nothing wrong with the tyres she's been out in in the rain with no grip problems at all, and they're scrambler tyres as well. I keep nicking it to thrash round the lane's it's a right hoot! If you can find a Zontes dealer near you go and try the bigger GK350 it's a bit of a hooligan, I loved it ! and if I had 4.5 K spare I'd have one! but I'm saving up for a Shotgun 650! to keep my Classic company, 😅😅 Cheers Mel 🍻 PS..just checked the specs on the CF moto tyres, they're fitted with Pireli GT 's so there's no worries anyway 👍

Great review mate. I tell you what . I absolutely love the T100, but I do sort of miss the TRK, and it is hard to justify the extra money, but the T100 is a dream bike🤩. The Chinese build quality and handling aren't that far of the Triumph, and if I was going back to an adventure bike, I would seriously consider another TRK or the 800 CF moto . There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Chinese bikes, especially for the price and all the features. Resale wise, I got a great trade-in deal on the TRK and the dealer sold it again in 2 weeks. Win win.

Yes very different bikes, but you wait until summer 😁 Now you see why I always go on about a winter bike 😁 The T100 is a very special bike that can do everything if you want it to but its party piece is the feeling it gives you 😁 There are better bikes for the winter and shitty days but, whilst still fun, they are only to do a job 😁 Least that’s what I think 😁 Thanks IT 😁

I imagine it's a bit like when the Japanese first started making motorcycles and the consumers of British bikes thought they were ridiculous and wouldn't ever be as good. I've not ridden a Chinese motorcycle and maybe I should, but I buy motorcycles because they are my passion and cost isn't my primary concern. It would be interesting to read opinions of people who've owned Chinese bikes for a while as people who own them on Reddit seem to think they don't last. I owned a new Skygo Earl Classic in 2022; assembled in Cebu, Philippines, made in China by Lifan. Lifan make over a million engines a year for their own bikes and for other OEM's. It was a perfectly good 150 cc bike, great for the horrible local traffic conditions, completely reliable and cost me about 620GPB, ride away.

I think CF Moto is the Chinese brand to watch, they are coming out with some nice bikes now. It has to be remembered that the 650 you rode is one of their older models and the newer stuff has improved even further just like Royal Enfield have improved on their newer models over the original Interceptor. I guess the question is do you not buy Chinese because of principles but then beggars can't be choosers and for a lot of people this will give them access to a brand new bike with a waranty for a relatively small amount of money.

I’ve never been bothered about warranty on Japanese bikes. I’ve never had a problem with one in 40+ years of motorcycling. Hopefully, the cf Moto bikes will prove reliable.
