he probably assumed that Ke2 was losing,4 minor pieces and 2 rooks chasing the king in the middle of the board while the oppenent has no pieces developped should be winning...He probably calculated the Rd2 move and the Kd1(which loses easily)
@CellarDoor-rt8tt4 жыл бұрын
Tbh, knowing how good Ding Liren’s prep usually is, my guess is that he expected the Rd2 line and had some prep for us that we didn’t get to see. Rd2 is the best move and so that’s likely the move Ding Liren expected considering a queen sac this early is certainly prep. Ke2 is a blunder here and I think Ding Liren probably looked at that move as it is definitely the type of move that a great player would think is good but a god amongst men would know is a blunder. He probably knew prior that it was a blunder and looked at a few ideas in the line. That being said It seems like Ding Liren is one of the best mid game players in the world. He reminds me of a young Kasparov where people would play him with their prepped lines and he would tear their preparation apart right in front of them

I don't understand why a GM would play Ke2 instead of Rd2. I thought the move was rather obvious.
@ian9toes7 жыл бұрын
Les Lassiter I totally agree, you maintain the possibility of castling which is always preferred you bring another piece to the defence and you save losing your rook. I don't get it, surely the queen sac didn't rely on him missing this, or did it.
@numcrun7 жыл бұрын
I know right. Ke2 and lose your rook seems like a patzer move. Oops no we are the patzers lol. After Rd2 there is Rd8 attacking the pinned the rook. It is still the best move but it is by no means obvious, even to the engine.
@leslassiter63787 жыл бұрын
Ian9toes, Either Ding Liren miscalculated, or he took a calculated risk. I would bet on the latter.

I wonder if Ding Liren was counting on Rd2 instead of Ke2 when he sacrificed his Queen. Also, I wonder what would've happened if 15. ... dxc3 had been answered by 16. bxc3, not accepting the sacrifice.
@thenpguy58527 жыл бұрын
It would be a very hard for you to find and play that move. Imagine you being a grandmaster (already very very very strong) playing the best player of your country who just sacrificed a queen. What do you do? Do you trust his calculations or your own? Is playing a move like rd2 playable psychologically? Maybe he was so scared he wouldn’t play just a surrendering move. To be honest I don’t know why he didn’t play rd2 but the pressure of playing fide rated games is very high, especially against your strongest Countryman in your national league and people have expectations for you to either get crushed or preform well as you are a talent
