I’m always wrecked by the line when the woman at the well says, “I am rejected by others.” She says it so tearfully. Then Jesus says, “I know. But not by the Messiah.” 🥲😭 Also Nicodemus not following Jesus is a heartbreaking scene especially since he wants to.

The dialogues move extremely quickly, and so although by now I've watched each episode multiple times I also appreciate the way he notices layers of symbolism, and allusions, that have gone right over my head. The power of good art, and the helpfulness of sharing one's insights!

I was so excited when I saw this new post. Thank you for sharing your heart with us. I love all the ways in these scenes that you pulled forward the “I see you” theme. To hear Jesus say “I see you” would melt me into the floor. I know He says it to me through His Word, and I claim it, but to stand face to face and hear that. Just wow! One day…

Now the naysayers would be yelling and tearing their clothes because you are ok with the fictional aspect of the Chosen. I have heard them and I have prayed that God tell me if I should stop watching because nobody should portray Jesus or make up stories about Him. But the Lord has not told me to stop watching or repent for doing so. I am sure you have heard this stuff that is out there and I would love to know what you think about it. Thanks for your channel and I look forward to hearing you next season!

I've heard that a lot too. Jesus is depicted in stain glass windows and in all sorts of artistic ways. The Chosen is using fiction to fill in backstories and to give us an idea of why these disciples dropped everything to follow him. Movies like Noah and Exodus: Gods and Kings go against the bible. It feels like they had an axe to grind against God. The heart here with The Chosen is different. I can tell you that the makers of The Chosen love Jesus! They're the first to say this show isn't scripture. What they're doing doesn't go against the Bible, their goal is to explore what those biblical moments could've been like. Scripture says briefly that Jesus cast 7 demons out of Mary Magdalene. This show is using fiction not to contradict that, but to show what that may have been like for her, and the power and love of Jesus to cast those demons by simply hugging her, and saying "you are mine." To me that's a powerful picture of Jesus pursuing us, meeting us where we are, and not leaving us there and redeeming us. They do their best to not have a denominational slant but to simply tell the story of Jesus. I hear so many testimonies of how this show made people want to read the gospels. That's fruit I can get behind.

Images were used throughout history to help people connect to the Bible. We are a more literate society but imagery is still a valuable tool to teach with. As long as there is no glaring contradictions we should give grace and feel blessed to have this storytelling in the spirit of the gospel. I think many over think this all because of fear. If your faith is rightly ordered follow your instincts. Mine draw me. Loser to the show which draws me closer to the Word.
