I agree what you said about Thomas. I meant to add this in your discussion about what happened to Ramah, but I guess I will put it here. In my opinion, the show does a great job when it is developing things that are based in scripture, or adds storylines to what we know from scripture in order to make a cohesive story. It loses me sometimes when it has “original storylines” that are not actually based in scripture because they feel more like writer manipulation of the audience. Ramah’s death scene felt to me like a lot of TV shows when they want to just have a “shocking moment” for the audience just for the sake of the emotional jolt the audience will feel. It made me think that every scene of Ramah and Thomas for the entire series was pretty much a waste of time.. That time could have been better spent showing more things that actually happened in scripture, even if they were just developing or adding to what is there. I felt the same way with Peter last season with what happened to Eden and their baby. I know that sometimes, they want us to have these moments that they feel like the audience can connect because they’ve experienced something similar, but I don’t think it’s worth it to shoehorn things in where it serves a lesser purpose. If anything, I feel like that detracts from some of the characters. For instance, I feel like Jesus looks very thoughtless in Ramah’s death scene because I felt like He wasn’t really caring for His followers since He was so busy trying to preach a sermon. It happened again when they threw rocks at Him in the synagogue. And that only reminded me that I usually feel like Mary Magdalene, Ramah, and Tamar don’t fit in scenes because they wouldn’t normally be the disciples in those situations. Wouldn’t Christ do more to protect female followers if they were right there in the midst of potentially violent situations? I think so. Thomas has just been given a chance to mope around and be bitter in several scenes, which I don’t think adds to his character, but I suppose the writers felt like we needed some thing to add drama to the story. The biblical narrative has dropped enough drama of its own. I think by the end of the series, I will be ambivalent about most of the original characters who appeared in the series, even though I do enjoy the show overall.

My friend, REV 22, 18-19! Plus, there is no "original story", there us just The Scripture and either its adaptation or twisting. I agree The Chosen twists it, but I must add that Your perception of the show (and seemingly of Christianity as such) is like it has to bargain with the world. Don't subconsciously judge it by how it will or will not be perceived, rather focus on God's view on that. Don't be afraid! Every one that neglects the mysthical aspect of God's work hasn't understand Christianity at all. We must never ever look at how people will look like something. Everything is in His hands!

Thomas and Ramah's arc has introduced an emotional side of Christianity no one delves into as intimately: the struggle with us following Christ, knowing He can do anything but not understanding why He wouldn't.

@WhitneyR. could you give me an example? None with emotional emphasis that I can remember. It was a key focus here but I know it's littered with similar emotional struggles, but none that really got me thinking,relating, and trying my best to understand God

The Thomas story line doesn’t particularly bother me except to say I think the time spent on it could have been used for better and actual biblical things

Judas is way too obvious. Unfortunately, making Judas the lone objector to Mary makes the disciples look inattentive, rather than Jesus being perceptive.

I saw Keith Greene and 2nd Chapter of Acts perform live in the early 70s! They're still some of my favorites. And no one has harmony like 2nd Chapter of Acts! One of Annie Herring's lessor known songs is my all time favorites, but I cannot find the music to it anywhere. It's called The Master's Hand.

As for the anointing of Jesus’ feet at 11:00 I think you’re missing the fact that the four gospel accounts are not describing the same single event. There are different places, women, participants, etc. It would be good to highlight that The Chosen only showed the one in John, not just that they relied on it. That one time was a totally unique anointing, and very different from the other 3. 🙏

@boaz63 Most likely the accounts of Matthew, Mark, and John are all describing the same event. Luke's is the only one which seems to be describing another one👍

Hi David!! Thank you for your in depth breakdown of the Chosen’s season finale!! I’m like other commenters here who feel the Thomas/Rhama storyline was a bit much. It felt like it was done for dramatic effect. I’m greatly anticipating season five, however. Well done on your commentary!! Sending lots of love and prayers to you and your family!! Take care!!😍😍😍🙏🙏🙏

26:09 I respect your differing preference (i.e. that you don't like this part of the arc). But hear me out: I relate to this portrayal, as one who had recently been there -- yes even as a seasoned believer --- and back. With Judas in the scene, I can even dare say I can relate with him -- and so continue to be forewarned and surrendered.

9:57 I didn't find it strange that He would tell Shmuel that, or to any unbeliever for that matter. I find that a way to challenge to look into what "as I have loved you" looks like. It could be argued that there are instances Shmuel could have looked back to to see Jesus' love for him (e.g. inviting him to join Him praying).

@clintonlagdameo5452 I definitely get where you're coming from, but I guess to me, the phrase "as I have loved you" only captures the full weight of the words when built on a more intimate relationship defined by habitual and repeated demonstrations of said love. (For instance, my best friend would be able to describe and understand and replicate my love far more than a casual aquaintance I have run into on occassion.) Technically Shmuel had experienced Jesus' love, but not to the degree of depth which the command itself is calling us to love one another. I don't know if that makes sense or not.

@@NowLetsBeHonest I think it's just that along the way, there was a season when I had a paradigm where I kinda strictly distinguished commands & promises that are "for believers" and those that are "for the public" and sort of freak out with, "Hey, that's only for us! Become a believer first!" While that doesn't mean it's not true, I'm in a season when that's no longer my attitude. I mean, I learned about "preaching the Gospel to myself daily," "there are parts of our hears that has not yet believed the Gospel" -- a picture of the ongoing work of sanctification, and yes, if not for grace, how like an unbeliever any of us could still be. So yeah, I come from you could say a renewed perspective of how little differences I have with unbelievers (i.e. His grace), but not of course negating how much He's transformed me, and He sees me differently, too.

I truly appreciate the breakdown, but one question that I have is: Why are some folks taking an issue with the chronology of David's appearances? The scenes are flashbacks and references. Jesus often referred to historical events in Israel's history and even more often quoted the Old Testament. The chronological order of these references is not the relevant point. Am I missing something here??
@NowLetsBeHonest
@NowLetsBeHonest 9 күн бұрын
@TheGenieLover it's mainly because the Chosen goes out of the way to put the dates on the screen. (This is the first episode where they didn't do that.) If they didn't put the dates on the screen, it'd be easier to overlook, but when there are clear contradicting chronological timestamps, it can be a bit frustrating. (It's as if I were to say, "Today is Thursday, and yesterday was Sunday." It's just a small inconsistency that sticks out if you're paying attention to it, but ultimately it isn't of much consequence to the story itself.)
