She's very strong in her post-Christianity, it's awesome! One thing she said that resonated with me, something I've thought before: we are STILL in the dark ages. We never left. So long as religion is used to kill, shun, and deny truth (especially for others not of the religion), then we will continue to be on the dark ages. We will not be fully enlightened or fully free on this earth until religion has no social or secular authority over people's lives. The Vatican must become a museum. All the money generated from tax exemption with churches needs to go to the poor. It needs to be illegal to bring kids to church. These people are out here LARPing and think we are part of their games. Just like she said: we are DONE playing their games!

Oh Michelle, you raised up old sore spot with me. My 6 year old son died in a drowning accident 45 years ago. I can still remember many Christians saying all those things you talked about like “god needed an angel” and “he’s in heaven with Jesus now”… I was raised in a white Protestant, well-off middle-class environment, so I can’t claim to fully understand how much suffering you’ve had to bear in your life, but I know the pain caused by those Christian platitudes. The self-righteous cudgel “you were never a true Christian” does apply to me, because none of the stuff I heard in church made sense to me. But I can tell you that that some of the things Christian said to me after my son died made me think “f-you, f-your God, and F the donkey he rode in on.” Tim, I appreciate what you do on your channel. You bring so many different people with so much diversity in their lives that I can learn from.

I couldn’t believe to hear she went to Spring Arbor University! I attended there as well. The amount of guilt, shame, and mind games this school plays on its students is horrific. There are basically two types of people on campus, those who try to think for themselves who are shamed into submission, and those who shame and are praised for condemning and snitching. When I finally graduated and escaped this environment, (can’t believe I made it out alive) it felt like I had been trapped in a dark cold cave where I was told I have to stay because it’s storming outside and isn’t safe. I finally chose to walk outside, and it wasn’t even raining. It was beautiful and sunny.

With respect💯, I only know of one, The Satanic Temple has sound tenets. Satanism is recognized as a non-theist religion; no god, no satan. 'Satan' is seen only metaphorically, as in 'the fight' itself, against any and all patriarchy and tyranny. Promotes personal responsibility and accountability. They also fight for women's choice and human rights. I can't speak for the LaVeyan(sp) satanists, tho I know they aren't the same. But I can find no fault with The Satanic Temple.⚘

I really enjoyed listening to Michelle share her story. Really powerful! I know she meant blacks (in America) didn't have a culture when she said that, not blacks in the continent of Africa in general. By the way, that is my BIGGEST regret wasting 40+ plus years in the Christian cult - not learning more about "African rain dance" and all the other nuances of my culture because all of that was demonic according to Christianity. Great job Tim, for bringing people with different backgrounds and perspectives more now to share their stories. If you ever want to hear the perspective of an African who grew up a Christian in an African village side by side the "idol worshippers" 🤔 😀 I'd love to come on.

Motorhead made a wonderful song titled "God was never on your side". It also asks the questions that christians never want to answer: If the stars fall down on me And the sun refused to shine Then may the shackles be undone May all the old words cease to rhyme If the sky turned into stone It will matter not at all For there is no Heaven in the sky Hell does not wait for our downfall Let the voice of reason chime Let the pious vanish for all time God's face is hidden, all unseen You can't ask Him what it all means He was never on your side God was never on your side Let right or wrong alone decide God was never on your side See ten thousand ministries See the holy, righteous dogs They claim to heal, but all they do is steal Abuse your faith, cheat, and rob If God is wise, why is He still When these false prophets call Him friend? Why is He silent? Is He blind? Are we abandoned in the end? Let the sword of reason shine Let us be free of prayer and shrine God's face is hidden, turned away He never has a word to say He was never on your side God was never on your side Let right or wrong alone decide God was never on your side No, no, no He was never on your side God was never on your side Never, never, never, never Never on your side Never on your side God was never on your side Never on your side kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5jVmaCar9R7qNk

Blind devotion to the pastor is so common. I related to a lot of this (emotional manipulation of music, feeling guilt of idolizing a person after traumatically losing them, believing that God would do a physical miracle for me as a teenager, and hiding my current beliefs from my Christian family and friends). I now spot religious and emotional manipulation from a mile away. Thanks for sharing your story!

I consider myself agnostic. I have a difficult time calling myself an atheist. I suppose I am, but I don't like to discredit all spirituality and I do value things like meditation, etc. That said, yes, I agree with pretty much everything that was said and I think that religion has really rotted the minds of humans for thousands and thousands of years.
@sundayoliver31475 ай бұрын
I'm in a similar place -- I'm aware of the power of dimensions that aren't in the "can be measured and judged" realm. But yes, religion is another thing-- often doesn't have anything to do with spirituality at all, and it's certainly brainwashing, and unfortunately in the case of the Abrahamic stories, brainwashing us into a warlike mentality, against others and ourselves.

So true what she said about how we trust our pastors with our lives sometimes. I remember as a volunteer in the college group our college pastor and his wife whom I would have small group with and babysit for asked me to let a young woman stay at my place for a night because they couldn’t have her anymore. I hadn’t given it any thought and just said yes. Turns out she was a drug addict and stole my boyfriend’s Xbox… as a 19-20 year old I was willing to trust anything they said. They knew what she was like and they still put my dad’s household in danger. And this was a church in a very nice neighborhood so it can happen anywhere. This poor girl became addicted to drugs after leaving the Hume lake Joshua program. From what I’ve seen it really hurt some students. It’s a very difficult program to get into. They expect perfect Christian applicants. Very mentally/emotionally taxing. Looking back the negligence of the whole situation disturbs me. What else has happened that people haven’t heard about?

It is amazing how we all grow up in our imperfect lives and largely recall our childhoods in a positive glow, regardless of the actuality. My wife grew up in the Philippines very poor but recalls it as a fun childhood. Her brother recalled digging through a garbage pile opening the bags. He recalled thinking the smell was so good!? The garbage bags came from those who had more, from the military bases or offices. Religion’s influence is inescapeable there. So many of the jeepneys, peoples shirts, billboards have God this or Jesus that. Even in the mall masses are held in some places. My wife is still devout, believing the U.S. is missing out on being as religious as they are. Our failings are seen as a lack of faith, despite the actual evidence religion does not offer us truth or morality. She hit it about 45 minutes in. My wife’s ancestors killed Magellan in the Philippines. (Partly inter-tribal fight) The original people bravely fought against him and died. Now the original culture was erased largely and the people today fully embrace the colonial culture and its religion and today it is total. It always mystifies me how Black Americans can embrace Christianity or Islam both didn’t see slavery as wrong. I know that it is not the origin of slavery but they both professed to be the word of god and righteousness that is where both fail, among other things.

I don't like the way "forgive" is used in the Christian context, or at least in the ones I know of. But the actual original meaning of the word is the same as "forego". It's not about saying what happened was okay. It's about forgoing it, releasing our own obsession with it, so we don't have to spend our energy on it and can have a life.

Actually, the pastors and preachers out there probably DO know that it's all mythology: why would they not? After all, they underwent a period of education before getting ordained; so they would have learned the truth about Christianity. All that blustering from the bully pulpit, then, is nothing but a covering up of truth they know, deep down in their hearts. Hypocrisy at its worst, pure and simple.

I think some of them truly believe that *this* mythology is somehow different, somehow the true container we are held in. I know I was raised that way in an intellectually-inclined family; I was introduced to myths from around the world, but the Bible was different. It's weird what religious brainwashing will do to you.
