Hi Tim, great stuff as always. BTW, myth has 2 meanings. one is pretty much saying it's just a traditional story and the other means false belief. This comes to me as a surprise as well when mythicist were asked to demonstrate no real Jesus, they often say basically it's a legend and they don't have burden of proof.

Christianity is diametrically opposed to rational/critical thinking, logic, and reason. I've gotten into conversations with some of them and quite often they come out and admit that critical thinking is "of the devil".

Great episode and dialogue, but to distinguish an older mindset from a “modern” one that is more in tune with accepting facts and evidence as foundational to understanding history or anything else, I think, is wrong and projecting a bit. Look around at conspiracy theorists, folks who believe in crystals and homeopathy without evidence. Look at those who accept claims made by charismatic individuals. Cults of any type. Jonestown, Heaven’s Gate…. The point here is to make evidential arguments that at least get people to critically think about the “why” of their beliefs and evaluate their positions before slamming that faith drink down the hatch without at least looking at bottom of the glass before they do.

Oh God.. the comment section is been flooded by Ammon fanboys AND LITERAL bots typing the same messages with different words (is ammon actually botfarming comments lol). As a native greek myself that pointed out all Ammon's blatant mistakes on Danny Jone's video I have to say Ammon doesn't pronounce or even SPELL or even attribute correct MEANING to basic words accurately like the word λησταί (that a 10-12 year old native greek child would pronounce and spell accurately), so how are you even >considering< trusting his judgement about metaliterary interpretations. The guy has basic understanding of greek at BEST and he is supposedly considered "an expert" lmfao. Americans eat this up cause they don't know better and just want to confirm their biases. Ammon is a quack that lost his mind and all the neckbeards try to dig in his ayh ole to find "truth" and feel superior or something. Wake up, me, a native greek, am LITERALLY telling you he's got basic shi WRONG. HE IS A DUNCE. point blank period.

Ironically, those who truly believe Christ is king of America should do what he says and be willing to die at the hands of their enemies. Problem for them is, their enemies are more understanding and more kind in helping them understand what’s actually true than their religious or political leaders ever were, hence all the cognitive dissonance with evangelicalism now a days.

And yet....when u say that the chance we r existing is so slim ....that still confuses me...would prefer a creator God....even if he was narcisstic, at least life would make sense...but that every single thing is chance...still messes with my mind But then when you talked about billions of years and
@StarseedShanКүн бұрын
Every single thing is not chance. Laws of gravity, electrons moving around the outer orbits of atoms, the rising and setting of the sun and moon, and endless natural laws interconnect to allow this symphony of life. So don't get too hung up on every single thing being chance. Think a little harder. Don't give up with one out of context idea. And none of it depends on a Bible, a Jesus, or any other kind of savior. Give your mind some breathing room.

I've noticed that when Dr Adair debates his main weakness is that he makes his arguments so thoroughly and with so much evidentiary support that his opponents can't respond and have to change the subject.

Four decades or so ago, I joined a very liberal Presbyterian church, at a time when the entire denomination was struggling with the issue of gay rights. And there was a subset support group of and for queer people, called "More Light," based on the idea that a living god could and would continue to shed more light on theological issues. The basis of this idea was that people would get more revelations direct from the holy spirit - although it never was expressed in quite that fashion. So this idea of a god who was either changing his mind or a god that had trouble expressing himself originally (even though it would take thousands of years to correct) was still a viable concept.

"or a god that had trouble expressing himself originally" A god with a social anxiety disorder is the only god that could possibly make any sense.

We are all stars born from mother earth. We are killing our mother. She is our mind and heart rhythm. When you die you will be saying Jesus, as you are the mourning star above, knowing of what we are doing to our mother earth, your mind never loses connection and cannot escape this reality of eminent death if nothing changes.

@Thetruthhurts-t6w you poor soul, you cannot buy your way out of the way the mother earth lives. Hopefully you can control your emotions or you will burn yourself to non-existence, not in hell, something brighter, supernova. Think your bright in space. Try it and see what happens. Mother earth knows our intentions and that's a fact.

Dr. Adair - sorry to be pedantic but while we tend to think the phrase "breaking the fourth wall" comes from film and tv, it actually predates that, a legacy of theatrical productions. A typical stage has a back wall and two sides. The "fourth wall" is the one that is supposed to between the actors and the audience, yet it is natural for the actors to turn "aside" (an actual stage direction) and speak, often in a stage whisper, supposedly to let the audience know what they are thinking or feeling.
@AaronAdair2 күн бұрын
If I may be pedantic back ( :) ), the concept of the fourth wall in theater seems to come to exist in the modern period. Plenty of plays before then did have direct speech to the audience (the soliloquies of Shakespeare is well-known), but the idea of the fourth wall is that there is something to suggest the stage is its own world, and the wall is an invisible way of looking into but not interacting with that world. From my understanding of theater history, this is a more recent innovation, and so it is only once the fourth wall is established that "breaking the fourth wall" becomes possible. But this is all about the exact nature of the terms and the history. You know, pedantic stuff ;)
