I take issue with the title, but that is a delightful film. It would have been cool if Christopher Plummer had played Scrooge in an actual production of the story (of course, for all I know, he might have played him on stage at some point in his life).
@haplessasshole961528 күн бұрын
@@MaskedMan66 I loved it, too. As a writer (on an exceptionally minor scale), I loved how the movie showed him agonizing over the sounds of names, and his characters trailing after him, never giving him a moment's peace. It's _such_ a writer's movie, and it emphasizes Dickens's friendship with the long-suffering John Forster, who was the only one of Dickens's friends he never fought with, largely because Forster simply wouldn't fight.

If you like offbeat film noir, watch "Quicksand" from 1950, directed by Irving Pichel (who was blacklisted during the McCarthy era) and starring Mickey Rooney as an L.A. auto mechanic who gets caught up in escalating trouble after committing a petty theft. Rooney at the time was working hard to break out of his Andy-Hardy-boy-next-door image. Taylor Holmes, the actor playing Scrooge here, plays a sympathetic lawyer in "Quicksand."

From the book: "Expect the first tomorrow, when the bell tolls one." "Couldn't I take `em all at once, and have it over, Jacob?" hinted Scrooge. "Expect the second on the next night at the same hour. The third upon the next night when the last stroke of twelve has ceased to vibrate."

And it’s also unusual that the 1962 adaptation titled “MR. MAGOO’S CHRISTMAS CAROL” was nominated for both a Best Short Film Oscar Award and the Emmy as well because it flashed across theatre screens as well as airing on NBC in December 1962. The worst as far as performances go are those of Kelsey Grammer and Patrick Stewart.
@MaskedMan6611 ай бұрын
@@LindaCooper-i3f I thought that Grammer did well, but Stewart was way too understated. When he was supposed to be cowering in abject terror of Jacob Marley's Ghost, he was sitting there calmly talking like Captain Flipping Picard negotiating with a Romulan ambassador. Which was utterly bizarre, considering how wonderfully he had delivered Scrooge in his one-man recitation of the book.
