Wow, this lady is awesome. I used to live in a dirt house and cook in Chulha like this, with my grand parents. People used to laugh at you and say you are poor. But cooking on those Chulha, the food was the best tasting and the house was always cool, no air condition needed. It would be so nice, to go back to the basic and live with the land and nature.

Yes the chulha, and the practice of leepaying the ground or walls which kept it cool and clean. It's a part of our East Indian heritage handed down by our ancestors. It almost died out. Thanks to this lady for keeping it alive and educating the younger people who may not be aware of all this. The past is relevant to the present and indeed the future. If cooking gas increases in price or you cannot afford it and you have your chulha (fireside) you can still prepare your meals cost effectively.🙂

I could hardly hear what was being said, as too much background noises drowned your voice. I would have liked to have heard how you build the fire side. Nevertheless, I would like to thank you for keeping Trinidad history and culture alive and would advise you get someone to records and illustrate the whole process of making these traditional cooking oven . Please demonstrate where the pot and fire goes. Also does this oven have something to rest the pot on ? Thank you so much for your video.
