Join Pastor Casey Doss as he explores 1 Peter 2 and the profound reminder to Christians that they are part of a chosen people and a holy nation. After Jesus ascended and the Holy Spirit came, Peter emphasized that God's laws set His people apart, making them peculiar to the world. True holiness is not just about living a moral life; it’s about engaging in empathy, humility, and love. Holiness is relational-it’s how we treat one another.
Peter’s scripture calls us to rid ourselves of sins against each other because holiness means not wounding our neighbors - it's loving them. Being different from the world means engaging with each other in a manner that reflects Christ's love and understanding. Holiness extends even further when we handle those who are unlike us or whom we don’t understand. Holiness cannot exist in isolation; it thrives in community.
When we are saved, we are grafted into the church, which is grafted into God's covenant with Israel. Jesus promises the Kingdom and gives us the church, meant to live out the Kingdom of God. Understanding the church’s assignment is crucial before trying to "fix" the world. The Kingdom of God is characterized by suffering love, not violence-by a banquet, not a battlefield. The church transcends national and political boundaries and is loyal only to God's Kingdom. The people of the world are God's, and worldly kingdoms will ultimately collapse. This is our great promise.
Join us in this insightful sermon to understand what it means to live as God’s holy nation.
