Meatloaf - the fine art of asking other's questions so you can lead the conversation back to MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Would have loved to have seen how The Church had evolved if Ploogy had avoided his demons and been able to be with them the whole way.

The Crystal Set were an extremely underrated band who deserved far more global recognition than they ever received.

Agreed! Almost Pure was a pure and optimistic version of the Cure's Disintegration.

Thanks for posting... I didn't see this interview even though I loved the Church so it's a little treasure

I always ponder why Ploog left. I honestly never heard him speak until finding this compilation of interviews - what a delightful chap. Was The Church big in the UK? It sounds as if they weren't so much, at least at this point in their history. I think they must have hit their peak in the US with, of course, "Under the Milky Way". Meatloaf - wow, when as a kid, I always thought he looked like a mess. Now, I'm older than he was in this video by 10 years - and I still look younger. Welcome to the eastern US, in August! I am thrilled to see The Church again, for only the second time ever... I wonder what song of Uriah Heep's they were rating so low. Maybe "The Way That It Is"......I know almost nothing about Heep.

RICHARD PLLOG IS A GREAT GUY. LOVE HIS STYLE OF DRUMMING. MET HIM AND SPOKE WITH HIM..REALLY ,A GREAT BLOKE

I met The Church on their first visit to Scotland in 1982. Richard was by far the friendliest band member. We discussed Dr Marten's boots at length. Great drummer despite his peculiar stick grip.

WOW! Thanks for this, this is tremendous! I saw them at The "posey" Ritz in November of 84, Thanksgiving weekend! Wasn't EVERY rock joint "posey" in 1984!?!? And in closing ...BRING ME THE BIG FAT PUMPKIN HEAD OF THAT MEAT LOAF DOUCHEWITTED JACKWAGON ...yes, I'm shouting!

@beepollen1 Hey Brenda - his name is Donnie Sutherland - was famous in the eighties for his Saturday morning music show - Sounds. This had a follow on show on Saturday nights called Afterdark, which this clip is from. There is a much longer interview I have where he interviews Steve alone initially (where Steve is smoking !!) and Richard joins the interview later - around Seance time - interesting to watch Richard in that interview - he certainly got more confident as the years went by...

Ploogy a top bloke putting up with that loudmouthed oaf. Steve's voice still works, unlike Mr Loaf's.

@beepollen1 Simon was the host of an afternoon kids show called Wonderworld - it had reporters etc that went out and did stories on popular culture etc - the fact that the church got on the show was a measure of their teen popularity early on.. BTW is co host was his dog - Woodrow !

@beepollen1 Well, Tim was in the Aussie band The Venetians who The Church toured with in the late 80's...Tim was the drummer for The Venetians. I guess the problems with Richard....they liked Tim and in a few years he became the drummer for The Church....I was being a bit "tongue and cheek" as well :)

@robhomemovies12 Simon Townsend's show was instrumental in giving new bands their first TV exposure... INXS did their very first TV appearance on the show.

@beepollen1 Brenda, I know Donnie Sutherland personally. He helped me build my youtube channel titled 'welovedonnie'. I might see him just before Christmas and ask him if he has any more footage of The Church. They were regulars on his show during their early days.

Meat Loaf's greatest thing he ever did was accept the role in Fight Club. He was PERFECT. I don't care about his music though.

This would be watchable, maybe even enjoyable, without the guy on the right coming on like a Vegas high roller wannabe.
