Slight correction: In Acts 10:14, Peter states that he always observed the food law. He was a Jew. In Acts 10:34, Peter states the meaning of the vision. In Romans 11:25, Paul states that the converted Gentile must enter into Israel, which is supported by Leviticus 24:22. Also, the disciples were not Christian, in Acts 9:1-2, they were the Way or Followers of the Way. In Acts 24:5&14, they were also called the Natsarim Sect (of 1st Century Judaism). Christianity was first established by Ignatius of Antioch. Study his theology to verify this assertion. It is one of the first recorded trashing of the Torah. The Good News is “showing love to the Father and the Messiah by observing the Torah” as described in the Parable of the Two Debtors. Therefore, observing the Torah is not dictated by anyone. Instead, it is done out of gratitude by the saved person. Hence, the circumcision of the heart comes before circumcision of the foreskin. No one of the disciples or apostles taught about abolishing or changing the Torah. It simply a misinterpretation of the NT, intentionally or not. Also, the 7th day Sabbath is neither Sun’s Day nor Saturn’s Day. Originally, the Israelites never used the Roman Calendar to track the Sabbath. They used the New Moon Day to mark the 1st day of each month as recorded in 1Samuel 20:27.

I visited St Peter’s last year and I found your analysis of this site, and more particularly the movement of Christianity away from Judaism to be intriguing. For Christians to not understand their Jewish roots is tragic, particularly when the other ‘big’ apostolic figure in the Christian scriptures - St Paul - highlights that part of what Jesus accomplished on the cross was that he “destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility” (Ephesians 2:14) between Jew and Gentile. As you’ve rightly highlighted, where church history can track separation, the original intent was connection. Thanks again.

There is no separation. From conception the “Church” was an OFFICIAL sect within Judaism. When you read Acts 1 and if you are familiar with Halakhah Law you will immediately notice that the Church is a legal entity WITHIN Judaism. There are 3 requirements which are met. Firstly, notice that there are 120 members in this synagogue. Why is this important? It is the exact number of persons in the Halakhah regulations to form a full fledged synagogue. Judaism and Catholicism were born on Shavuot/Pentecost. To this day the Catholic Conclave has a maximum limit of 120 electors to elect the Pope. Secondly next according to Halakhah regulations there must be a "beit din" (Hebrew court) formed. We see that there is a beit-din and it draws lots and Matthias a disciple is chosen to take over Judas bishopric (episkopen). The first example of Apostolic Succession. So two of the three requirements are met. The third requirement is that there must be a NASI (prince/temporal) and an AB (father/spiritual) appointed. Curiously Peter is filling both these positions in this beit din. Why? In 190 BC the Kohan Gadol (jewish high-priest) fell into apostasy and beit-din gadol (Hebrew court) cast a vote of no confidence splitting the Kohan Gadol into two offices the "NASI" and the "AB" within the Beit Din Gadol. Fast forward to Matt16, in this new Beit Din Gadol (70 disciples) Christ has placed His confidence in Peter (the first AB/father/pope meaning papa) by presenting him the Keys to the temple/governance bringing the two offices back into one high priesthood the way it originally was. The pope has both temporal and spiritual powers. Peter is the NASI prince of the apostles and the AB/pope (Pope meaning papa - meaning father) as you see even today the pope as Peters documented and unbroken apostolic successor is both ‘nasi’ and the ‘ab’ in Catholicism. Rashi/Jewish sage writes a commentary on the priestly role of the steward/vizier of the Davidic Kingdoms. The Keys are the keys of the Temple and Authority. When the Davidic kings were away the steward/vizier was in charge and he wore the keys the King gave him so the citizens knew who he was. The steward is given the sash/robes/keys to the temple because the role is also a priestly role. The keys were then passed onto a successor when that steward died/removed. (Isaiah 22 v15-25) The Apostles knew exactly what had occurred when Jesus gave Peter the keys. Jesus presents the keys to Peter (Pope/ab) and appoints him/his successors as His royal steward to care for HIs flock until His return. Jesus gave all the Apostles special gifts but He only gave Peter the keys to Temple and governance. First book of Kings lists all the Kings and the royal steward/vizier is always listed next to the King because in the absence of the King he was in charge of the Kingdom. Christ also renames Peter (the only Apostle renamed) as Abraham and Jacob were renamed by God in preparation for their specific role in salvation history. Jesus, Son of David rebuilt the davidic kingdom as per 2SamCh7 - He is the King, His mother is Gebirah, Peter/successor Popes are His royal stewards/viziers and the Hebrew court/beit-din is the Magesterium. Catholicism is not a new religion, it is the legitimate continuation of Temple Judaism (not Rabbinic Judaism). Catholics do not throw out what God has revealed prior and continues to hold that all that is revealed is a single continuous revelation culminating in the Catholic Faith. Jewish priests who followed Jesus brought the temple rituals over: we kept the priests, the altar, the eternal sacrifice, the holy incense, the shewbread, the tabernacle, the sanctuary etc, etc, etc Ancient Temple Judaism and Catholicism is the same faith in two covenants one old and another new. Jesus reinstated the Melchezidek priesthood (which pre-exists the Aaronic priesthood). This is why all Catholic priests belong to the order of Melchizedek, the fulfilment of the theophany of Melchizedek giving wine/bread to Father Abraham.

Catholicism is a sect of Ancient Temple Judaism, not the first century form of Judaism or rabbinic Judaism but the Judaism of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and the Melchizedek priesthood. King Josiah removed the religious artefacts, imagery and practices of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and almost all the kings in Jerusalem - Josiah enforced the Deuteronomy version of the Moses religion on the people. The religious items of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob had survived in the land until 6th century BCE - sacred oak tree, pillars, altars, places outside Jerusalem to offer sacrifice. In other words, the ‘Moses’ religion with the ten commandments and the Aaron priesthood did not finally replace the Abrahamic faith and the Melchizedek priesthood until just before the first temple was destroyed. No indication in the early chapters of Isaiah, written in 8th century BCE, that the prophet knew about Moses and the ten commandments. The two temple rituals originally exclusive to the high priests were carrying blood into the holy of holies on the Day of Atonement and eating the most holy Shewbread on the Sabbath. These were combined to become the Catholic/Orthodox Eucharist. It is beyond doubt that the first christians were concerned with reinstating the faith of the FIRST temple which became "Christianity". Images and practices that most Christians take for granted such as priesthood, the shape of a traditional church building, or the imagery of sacrifice and atonement are all obviously derived from Solomons Temple. By reconstructing the world of the older faith it can be shown that Invocation of the divine Presence, Trinity, Incarnation, Resurrection, Theosis (the human becoming divine), the Mother of God and the self-offering of the Son of God were also drawn from the temple. The gospel as it was first preached by Jesus, and as it was developed and lived by the early Church, concerned the restoration of the true temple, the First Temple. The priestly line of Zadok was usurped after Babylonian captivity. True Priesthood of Melchizedek was removed from Jerusalem and the Hasmonean dynasty replaces Zadokite dynasty. Mary's genealogy points to Zadokite line. (The messiah could only come through the uncorrupted Zadok line)

As usual, you walk the fine line of being an impartial reporter between the arguments for both sides ... and getting arrows from both sides. Yet, without tour guides like yourself, the land of Israel as seen today is a complete mystery if viewed by only one side. You have enough friends from both sides who value knowing the larger picture. Blasphemer or Messiah? Not your job to defend. For the tour guide, your cross-cultural historical knowledge helps explain the whys and wherefores when looking at various boots-on-the-ground sites that beg for such explanations. THANK YOU. This is an excellent video and a great history. We were always told as Christians because God rested on the 7th day according to Genesis chapt 2 ( He had created the world and his work was done) and because Sunday was the 7th day was a day of rest and Sunday services. That was the understanding we were told of the Sunday instead of Saturday. The RC Church in Ireland since the 1970s has Saturday evening Service(Mass) in addition to Sunday. Its plain to be seen Jesus did not set up any church he was Jewish. I am.a christian and I love your videos.

I haven’t really thought of it that way. I appreciate your fresh perspective that comes from being a tour guide with a sober and fact-based view of religious history. I also appreciate your knowledge and insight into New Testament history. Jesus did welcome non-Jewish people and ministered to them, and in doing so sometimes he went against Kashrut laws. But yes, the full on incorporation of Gentiles into the group known as Christians, without having to be (and do) Jewish did start with Simon, which is interesting because Paul was the one that ended up becoming the apostle to the Gentiles.

The Kashrut laws are not Biblical. They are rabbinical. Perhaps some could be traced to Levitical laws, but the rabbis added on so much more that is just not in the Tanakh. And as for the Levitical covenant with Moses, that was the OLD covenant. If you read *Jeremiah 31:31-34, a NEW covenant "not like the old" was prophesied.* In Ezekiel as well. One that replaced the ceremonial laws of the old covenant. A NEW way to communicate with God. And this is straight out of the Tanakh, which Jesus knew better than anyone else. If you read the New Testament, it becomes quite obvious. And if you read WHY the Jews were chosen, God states in the Tanakh that it was NOT because they were a great people. They were the least of the nations. They were chosen because of the "promises made to their ancestors." ABRAHAM, ISAAC and JACOB. Who was Abraham? He was born in Ur of the Chaldees, a pagan nation. He was a GENTILE, since the Hebrews did not even exist yet. Abraham was the ancestor of Jacob/Israel, whose children BECAME the 12 tribes of Israel. God PLANNED ALL ALONG that he would create a people (Israel) that would become a "light to ALL the nations," and spread God's word to the entire world. Which, of course, Jesus and his disciples did quite successfully, in spite of severe persecution by the Sanhedrin. DEUTERONOMY: 7-8 The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people: 8 But because the LORD loved you, and because he would *KEEP THE OATH WHICH HE HAD SWORM UNTO YOUR FATHERS,* ... (GOD TO ABRAHAM) “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. They were chosen for a mission, like that of Jonah, to bring God to the world. AND they were CHOSEN BEFORE ISRAEL and Israelites even existed! God chose to CREATE a chosen nation. Why is it that Jewish people spend so little time in their own Tanakh? The oral torah does not supercede the actual inspired word of God. READ THE TANAKH. STUDY IT. The history of mankind, God's unending love for ALL his children, and his amazing plan for the redemption of mankind that was to come from the future Jewish nation - IT'S ALL THERE. IN THE TANAKH. Hey people, I am not religious but have great respect and admiration for wonderful people like Jesus, Buddha etc.,also I have some sort of affection, connection and bond for Jews and Israel. I have never interacted with a Jew not been to Israel but I am not sure why I always loved Jews and Israel. Also, there is none in my family or friends or relatives who are Christians or Buddhists but I developed a sense of respect and admiration for Jesus and Buddha. At the same time, I have great aversion for Mohammad and Islam; Sometimes, I feel maybe in my previous birth I was a jew or something. I believe in the law of karma only and not any particular religion but always felt some sort of connection with the Jews. I cried a lot when the massacre of Jews happened on 7th October and was in depressive mood for several days. I don't know why I have this feeling for group of people with whom I never interacted in my life. Anyway, I wish the best for Israel. May it come back from these tough times even stronger and United.

Here is the thing about Israel that the world does not see or accept. From the time of Abraham , God promised them (Jews) land . Through slavery to Egypt , the Jews called out to God for 400 years and by God's grace , He (God) answered the Jews and He rescued them from Egypt and He took them to the land He had promised Abraham 100's of years before . So to be 100% accurate , that land belongs to the Jews . It was given to them by God almighty. Any man who does not support Israel stands against God and any man who stands against God is on the losing side ......THAT'S FACT. So if you stand for Israel , that only means that you stand for them . That only means you have chosen the better of the two sides to support . It is sad that many Christians do not understand the Jewish roots of the Christian faith well. I'm impressed with your knowledge of the New Testament and Christian History, but I guess that's why you're a tour guide :D It's true it was only after the ascension that non-Jews came in ( as you mentioned in 1:12 ), but it's also true that the even in the Tanakh there were non-Jews grafted into God's people (Zipporah the Midianite, Caleb the Kennizite, Ruth the Moabite and others). Jesus also told his disciples that they would be opening the gates fully ('Great Commission' in Matthew's Gospel) and that is what is demonstrated throughout the stories told in Acts including Pentecost, Ethiopian Eunuch and Cornelius, etc

Yes, even in the Old Testament, outsiders were welcomed into the Jewish people but this is completely different from grafting in Christianity. There are Messianic Christian congregations filled with Gentiles who say they are grafted into the Jewish people. There are even Christian groups who take Gentiles and call them Rabbis. Judaism has rules and procedures concerning conversion to Judaism. Grafting is usually part of replacement theology where Christians are seen as the new Jews. There are other Christians who still regard the Jews as God's Chosen people but appropriate rituals and practices from Judaism.

One can live a Christian life fully without the Jewish rituals. We are to be led by the Holy Spirit. The Jews did not have the Holy Spirit guide them. idk. I think that most Christians know that the Jewish Bible (Tanakh) and the Old Testament are one and the same (even if the Tanakh is grouped a little differently and in more chronological order, the actual books, chapter and verse are the same). And that Jesus Himself stated that he came to affirm and FULFILL the Jewish Bible, our Old Testament. NOT to replace it. Luke 24:44 - And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be FULFILLED, which were written in *the law, and in the prophets, and in the psalms,* concerning me. Note that Jesus refers to "the law, the prophets, and the psalms." This is the 3 sections of the Tanakh. So Jesus affirms the validity of the Tanakh (our Old Testament), and adds the qualifier "concerning me" because he was speaking to a Jewish audience. Jesus also quotes most of the prophets at one time or another. I love Oren and his videos, but I can hear shades of resentment towards Christianity at times, whether he realizes it or not. Oren is amazing with his historical knowledge, but has no true understanding of Christianity. If he did those subtle little flashes of hostility would not be there. I hope he keeps making these videos, he is truly gifted. And I really understand Judaism AND Christianity much more deeply because of his videos. They really make you think. I understand the threat Jesus was to the Sanhedrin, and how they were thinking much more fully now. And Jonah takes on a much broader meaning as well. 🙂 So much to learn!

Just one point re the splits you mentioned at 7:16: you compared splits/arguments in Christianity and Judaism, but I would say that there's a difference: the splits in the former became permanent over time, while the splits in the latter might still exists in a minor degree, but they were greatly diminished over the years and didn't result in the same sort of hard split.

Love Oren's videos! I wish I could go to Israel. It's sad though, that Jesus words about Peter being the rock that the church is founded on is misinterpreted. Jesus meant what Peter had SAID that would be the foundation, in other words, "I believe you are the Christ" is the foundation of the church. Not a man called Peter.

Yeshua of Nazareth never established new religion, hence, true Biblical Christianity has nothing to do with religion and being a true follower of Yeshua of Nazareth has nothing to do those so called “Christian" churches. Hello.. I wondered whether your tours included the holistic angle of ley lines on the earth? Religious buildings have a tendency to be built upon them. My thought is that knowing ley lines, a holistic practioner in Earth Accupuncture could support the earth rather than masculine energies of war (fire) and diplomacy (air) to reduce tensions. We are an ecosystem upon the earth rather than separate. Don't get me wrong, I support the attempts being made by dialogue, but I think there maybe another angle that could be tried alongside or subtle methods to calm down the environment. These methods harm noone and worth trying. Earth Accupuncture (using dowsing to find stagmented energies on ley lines and hit a wooden post in the ground to release. Then praying.) When I experienced it, I was surprised to sense the difference in music around became less disjointed & the sun came out. Israel/Palastine area I understand is also on earth's throat chakra and why elements of people being muted & unheard are felt. The land also may not have been honoured when some buildings were built. The earth responds if unheard as well.

Historically Jesus lived as a Jew when he lived on Earth as a man. I was speaking with a Christian co-worker and trying to find common ground. He vehemently denied that Jesus was a Jew. I was shocked but he explained that to him Jesus is God and God cannot have any religion. After thinking more about this, I realized that Jesus only became important after he died and because he is worshipped by billions as God. Jesus may have been regarded by some Jews as the Messiah, but the worship of Jesus as God and part of the trinity came with the Gentile takeover of Christianity. So Jesus of Christianity is not really Jewish. During all the persecution of Jews in the name of Jesus, it was the Christian Jesus. Jesus was born a Jew but converted to Christianity after he died.

It was Paul who spread the Gospel to the Gentiles. Peter and the other 11 remained in Jerusalem and were so outraged that Paul was fraternizing with non-Jews that they summoned him to Jerusalem. (This is all recorded in the New Testament book of Acts). Fortunately, Peter, having had that vision you mention from God that OK'd his going to the Roman centurion's house, with great reluctance however, recalled during that Jerusalem summoning of Paul many years later this experience and related how God had come to the Gentiles by way of the Holy Spiri, in such a way indeed that convinced Peter that God had truly saved the centurion and his whole house. This recollection aided them in their meeting with Paul. But yet, even after Peter's going to the Roman house, those many years later in their meeting with Paul in Jerusalem, it was extremely difficult for the apostles to accept that God would have anything to do with the Gentiles. So, in that meeting it was determined that Peter and the apostles would only minister to the house of Israel, while Paul was the designated minister to Gentiles. Even at the end of his life, Peter admits in his epistle that Paul's Gospel given to him by Christ was "hard to understand", but in no uncertain terms affirmed its truth and exhorted all to follow it and be wary of those who would wrest and twist this scripture. This is the Bible's version of events.

Scriptural or Biblical Christianity and Catholic Religion is quite different in many ways. Some places Rome named as locations in Jesus time is questionable even the Egyptian Mount Sinai as I watch videos on the real one in Saudi Arabia and is amazingly true. As a Christian I certainly have a lot of respect and gratefulness to the Jewish people and love the Old Testament stories and appreciated my trip to Israel in 2011 would have loved to visit the second time as alot to take in on one trip.

More or less. Each were a blend of intents. Saul/Paul had a tiff about Peter eating non-kosher when with Gentiles and then suddenly only eating kosher with his Jewish friends. Saul/Paul called him a hypocrite (two faced), The Jewish "The Way" community in Jerusalem struggled over even allowing Gentiles into their community. They finally settled on some Noahic principles as a criterion for Gentiles which included not eating blood (undrained meat) and strangled meats (inhumane butchering). As the church got away from its Jewish roots, even these elemental food rules became ignored. I would say you are correct in general terms and probably observing the aftermath of the falling out with each other, Peter later likely engaged more with his Jewish compatriots. Saul/Paul on the other hand started out only speaking to Jews (having been trained by a leading Rabbi in Jerusalem in his early years). It was only in desperation with the grief he always received in the synagogues that he broke and said "Fine! I am going to the Gentiles from now on." ... and being kind of hypocritical himself, he still scheduled his Med Sea travels to get back to Jerusalem for the Festivals. We cannot say Paul was all of one way and Peter all of another way. They were both working in brand new spiritual territory. Hence, that is why I say they were each a blend during their overall lives.

The separation between Judaism and those who recognised Jesus as the Messiah probably happened in the mid 70s - mid 80s which is when the Christians were expelled from the synagogues and after which the rabbis introduced the “Benediction on the heretics” into the liturgy which is a curse on apostates and “Nazarenes”, i.e. early Christians. From memory, I think the actual date is 84.

@@dogbert52 Yes, but there were synagogues throughout the Roman Empire and in Persia as well. Christians were first called Christians in the Antioch synagogue. The Jews outside the holy land were generally unaffected by the revolt in Palestine.

However, there is something I believe is inaccurate in your view of historical Jesus (at least as it is told in the Gospels), and this pattern seems to be recurring among many tour guides in Israel. It is not true that "it was Jesus followers who opened Christianity to everyone, while Jesus Himself intended to preach to Jews only". While it is certainly true that Jesus preached firstly to the Jews, this was only to emphasize that "salvation is from the jews" and that "jews are the light to the gentiles". There are examples where he preached to Gentiles in Gerasenes, to Roman Centurion's servant, to Canaaitian woman and others. He speaks about sheep from another flock (John 10:16). But most importantly of all, Jesus gives his disciples the great commision to preach to all nations (Matthew 28:16-20) and prays that "the world may believe" (John 17:20-22).

Judaism at the time of Jesus had a lot of different groups with very unusual ideas to us today, many of these ideas found their way into Christianity whereas they fell out of the mainstream in Judaism. This helps explain why Christianity seems to early on have very bizarre traits, like the positioning of Jesus as in some way divine. There were Jews at the the time of Jesus who theorised about different "powers in heaven", using divine agents to explain how an uneffible God could interact with a tangible world (the thinking that squared this with God's oneness is a bit complicated). The followers of Jesus linked this concept to him, as he increasingly became the focus of devotion once his followers of believed he rose from death.

Only the Jews think that Jesus "created a new religion." In reality, it was the Pharisee's that created the "new" apostate religion that veered sharply away from the prophecies of the Tanackh, continuing Israel's tradition of rejecting their own prophets. After the fall of the temple in 70 AD, only 2 forms or sects of Judaism survived. The Rabbinical Judaism invented by the Pharisees (the new religion) And Messianic Judaism that continued, affirmed and fulfilled the Tanakh. The only TRUE Judaism. So today's rabbinical Jews got it exactly backwards. Messianic Judaism, known today as "Christianity," is the only 100% pure Judaism.

Churches later on wanted to distance them selves on Judaism. The doctrine of Trinity isn't found in the New Testament, it's added there later. Otherwise Paul for example, would be blessing the new christian congregations in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. But that is not the case, it's clearly added later on.

As a Jew, Christianity has always been confusing. Christians keep telling me that my prayers will not be answered because I do not pray in the name of Jesus. Yet the Lord's Prayer in the New Testament is addressed only to God. I find it beautiful and very Jewish. Jesus taught this prayer when asked how to pray. Why does Jesus teach a prayer without mentioning the Trinity? Isn't Jesus afraid of going to Hell? Isn't Jesus afraid that American Protestant Evangelical Christians are going to tell him that his prayers will not not be answered?
