The Civivi Elementum seems to be a step up from the RAT2 D2. My coworker broke his knife at work and I recommended the Elementum as a replacement. It is mostly because I want one to replace my RAT2 D2. Unlike the Elementum, the R2D2 does not have stainless liners!my R2D2 had significant rust on the liners after taking it to work for just a couple of months. There was water involved but I always conscientiously dried the blade. The rust happened between the carbon fiber scales and the non stainless liners.

Great vid; love all of your work Nick. Keep it up! I just picked up the brass version. It’s an amazing knife. Definitely heavier because of the brass, but it still doesn’t weigh my pocket down. This thing fits great in the pocket and disappears - with the way they did the flipper tab, there absolutely no “pocket pecking”. It looks like BHQ is doing another run of the brass, copper, and wood versions. As of this comment, BHQ has 7 versions in stock, and the 5 other versions of copper/brass/wood are all coming again). I personally don’t have any issues with the liners/scales not being flush; while ideal, it really doesn’t change the ergos for me and aesthetically is no issue in my opinion. The clip not being recessed has not been an issue with any type of pocket snagging thus far. My biggest gripe (mostly because I’m a lefty), is that the clip is not reversible. Not a killer, as I can go right handed carry for my left back pocket, and honestly even front left pocket isn’t a concern because it stays far the the side. It seems like in 2020, a reversible clip should just be standard at this point however.

WE knives definitely noticed how amazing the Gent is that they manufacture for (mass) Drop and made it more affordable. With the Gent now at $100 or more, this is probably a better option for most people. But... S35VN, titanium, and overall cleaner design still make that knife a winner for me.
@artiet59824 жыл бұрын
I agree, although I own two of these Elementums I would still grab the gent select if possible, which I’ve missed the drops on and really want to secure in cf. biggest attraction for me of the gent is the flatter looking grind. The hollow grind is the only thing I don’t love about the Elementum.
@artiet59824 жыл бұрын
Also, the Elementum s35vn micarta is now listed to be released and is $90... makes the gent (now) seem like a better or at least equal value to this knife given all aspects considered (gents titanium liners, etc).

I have 4 of these Elementums, yes they're all that good. I have the one you show here in the brown micarta, the Black Ebony wood and the brass and copper stonewashed handled with black blades all 4 are great knives and there are no differences in performance between any of them. The best part about the Civivi knives are that none of the models I've seen have the usual bill boarding on the blades or handles, I think all knife makers can take a lesson from these guys in what the consumers want in their knife purchases.

Another issue that Nick overlooked is that the pocket clip is right-side carry only. Sure, there's nothing to prevent you from putting it in your left pocket, but then it's tip-up with the blade facing inward. Would it have taken that much more effort to route out a recess and drill a couple of holes on the other side?
@calebangell774 жыл бұрын
Yeah that kinda sucks. I'm a lefty, and I'm used to right side carry in left pocket by now, but a true left side carry is still so much better. Us lefties get the fucking shaft in the knife world so often.

This is my favorite "budget" knife of 2019. I have the Damascus with CF scales, so the black hardware matches better. Haven't had any issues with the pocket clip snagging, but it would be nice if it was recessed. I like the shadowbox scales, and the liners are so perfectly chamfered that I have noticed any discomfort. The lanyard hold is kinda odd, but it does break up the monotony of the knife a bit. All things that would be annoying on a $150+ knife, but for this price I just can't get myself worked up about them. Eventually I'll get a Rosewood one assuming they do get restocked at some point. I've held off on getting a Civivi up to this point for various reasons, but they're getting harder and harder to resist. My remaining reason is that, in the final analysis, I already have a bunch of D2 knives, and they just don't hold an edge long enough. I have owned this knife for four months and I can say that this little knife is a 10 out of 10. I have med/large hands and there are no hotspots to speak of. The scales not reaching the exact edge of the handle does nothing to degrade nor enhance the purchase of my grip. As far as hot swapable scales, mods, etc has nothing to do with the review of this knife. Those are business decisions that don't concern me and frankly, I don't care about those things. The lanyard hole is appreciated and does not take away from the aesthetics in any way. Ya know, I love ya brother. But I don't think you were fair to this one. With much respect, I digress.

I think it’s unfair saying he’s unfair. I disliked the elementum. $50 is enough I care about what I’m buying. Big for my taste, didn’t like the ergonomics especially the liner lock for some reason. I had hot spots, medium to large hands also. Would much prefer a $20 disposable knife until I could afford a chaparral or dragonfly. Luckily I could and did afford those. I don’t get the elementum’s hype

Nick, are flippers legal everywhere?

Just ordered my first one.. The size got me. Also, I take the clip off because in Australia we have to hide these ..So that fixes the ugly lanyard hole ugliness with a beautiful lanyard, chuck a pandora charm on or 2 and Bobs your real dad.. Had nothing but bugouts in my pocket for the last bit, time to try something else. Also, i just made a bugout video if anyone wants to check it out . Great Video mate, i actually watched it twice.. Beauty Bonza!

Thanks for the vid, i actually just ordered this knife. I have a Civivi Brigand that i am a fan of but it is just a little to big for everyday carry. I would love to see a review from you on the Civivi Brigand, do you have any plans to review it? Have a good one.

Surprised you didn’t note that the clip isn’t reversible. I do like this little knife and it shows that Chinese manufacturing can definitely compete.

I'm in love with my elementum, I missed out on the copper and bronze ones unfortunately, waiting for those to come back in so I can order it.

I got the copper one with black blade, and man, is it nice! The copper scales give it quite a bit of heft, which feels great in the hand. Good luck on grabbing one if they ever come back in stock!

I got a copper with silver blade, get yourself on bladehq email notification list and grab one if they become available again. It’s heavy. But the scale is very nice. The clip, blade, pivot, screws and frame are all the same finish. The overall effect is very nice. Action is very good, which I understand is true across the civivi line. This is my first experience with civivi or we. For less than the price of a delica it’s a great piece.

The black hardware looks awesome on the grey scales, and it matches the 'C' logo. Even better, IMO, is the Damascus on black G10, which is the one I bought. I'm also going to buy the black blade on brass scales...as soon as it's released.

I have a problem. I just bought another Civivi Elementum. They're too customizable with all the different versions and now titanium scales and clips available. I see something I don't have and start thinking oh I could put those scales on this knife and make this cool combo, and then think, but then I'll have to buy another one..

Do you have any experience with Nord Crown knives? Recently bought a Turist at a gun show and would love to hear your rhetoric.

The detent on my new copper scale is great, the detent on my older g-10 is weak, and won't deploy the blade sometimes...

i recently bought the ebony elementum. doesnt flip well at all! feels like something is rubbing. loostened it, oiled it lightly, no better. any suggestions?

Same issue with mine. It's fine for a day or two but I have to keep taking it apart and cleaning and oiling it. Then it's fine for another day or two.. seems like we are the minority though. That being said I did just order another Civivi knife hoping that was just a fluke

I got mine after they ran out of the first batch & it has a weak detent also. I think they rushed the second batch and didn't dial them in. That being said, I still love mine & carry it every day. Always fails on push button, can make it work with light switch, if you give extra power to it.

1. This looks similar to the gent but they are suprisingly different when you have them both side by side. The elementum is much better in the hand IMO and the flipper tab isn't slippery like the gent. I kept my elementum and sold my gent. 2. I tried to suggest a steel upgrade to Civivi when it was clear that these were popular but they told me that steel upgrades were not for the budget brand and that I should look at the WE lineup. I would love to see this in S30V or S35VN for a little more money. I know they have plenty of it and they would sell like crazy.

I also have both and rarely carry the Gent now that I have the Elementum.

Nick, I absolutely love your reviews. I just want to compliment you and say that your knowledge and passion for your subject shines through loud and clear without an ounce pretence or snobbery. Even with a mundane and average product like this knife, you are able to hold the attention of the viewer and make the review something special. You are wonderful and keep up the amazing work.

I was watching this video because I'm looking at the CIVIVI and was gonna get it tomorrow, but thought I would get another person's opinion on the knife. I didn't even get a quarter of the way through this video before I subbed, turned on ALL notifications, and liked. also, yes, I am up at 12:17 am just after Thanksgiving. And no, I have no explanation or reason.
