MJ :- The second batch is out now, (July, 2020) and a comparable knife...the WE Banter has just been released...worth a look if this style/size EDC knife appeals to you. The Civivi and WE are both made by WE, thought the Civivi Elementum goes for about $50 and the Banter for about $100. The Banter does use a premium steel.

You just pointed out something I hadn’t noticed. And I think it is part of the aesthetic that drew me to the knife. Something about it’s design and look grabbed me as what I best described as “beautiful simplicity”. And that is in the lack of writing on the blade. To me, that simple C and nothing else looks somewhat sophisticated. Add that to the D2 and the availability of scales and you’ve got a winner in that price range. If you’re quick enough you might be able to get one in s35vn for about $20 more.

I think elementum is quite appropriate in that civivi seems to have distilled down the features of a flipper linerlock to a simple & elegant design with clean aesthetics and solid ergonomics for most any hand. It's an "everyman" knife at a price that makes it an excellent option for someone who isn't totally sure about getting hooked on knives and wants a quality user.

@@JTsKnifeLife I agree, civivi's execution is always on point. And the bearings & "gentleman's edc" looks of most civivi folders leads to people underestimating their capabilities (which you addressed in the cardboard demonstration) and that applies across their lineup. How many knives have you ever seen in 9cr? Are there a lot? I just don't know of that many
@nebulamask815 жыл бұрын
Overall no not a lot, I know there are some fixed blades by steel will in it (their druid line), but as far as civivi the Backlash, Naja & Praxis are in 9cr18mov. I have the Backlash and it's been a very good performing steel for me, feels close to vg10. I would also be happy if they made a sub 3" civivi in vg-10, they've just been pumping out a LOT of D2 and I get it, the profit margins are probably higher with D2, but it's a non-starter with me since I live near the ocean and don't want to deal with a non-stainless steel in this environment.

I sold my g10 20cv mini grip a month after I got my first Elementum, exactly because of reason 3. My xl glove size hands I could never grip the mini grip right. I guess cutting cardboard is the most rigorous testing we are going to get in these videos of EDC knives. I would like to see a more difficult performance test but cannot think of tough chores I ask my EDC knives to do. I suppose it is not unreasonable to expect my EDC to be needed to cut wood, or rope, or whacking on something other than cardboard. What do you think? Am I expecting too much?
@JTsKnifeLife5 жыл бұрын
I've seen people who do hard use testing in videos, but I dont understand the point of it, personally. Is it entertaining? Sure, but it isn't Informative in regards to anything that matters to me. I don't chop wood or cut thick rope regularly with my knives, so the ability of a knife to do that isn't relevant to if I'll like it. Personally, 90% of my knife use is at work where filming isn't an option, and when I am at home I just don't think about setting up the tripod when I have stuff to cut. Sorry to disappoint, but while more cutting might be seen on this channel moving forward, it never will be anything excessive.
@brucefarrar3005 жыл бұрын
@@JTsKnifeLife Hmmm...All respect but I guess you are saying the videos are what interest you and not necessarily what your viewers might want to see. For me, I'd like to know the limits of capabilities of the tools I have. To be clear, if someone were testing an adjustable wrench it would not be appropriate to see how it works as a hammer. But a knife should be able to cut a variety of things I might encounter. However, I understand you don't want to put your gear to the test for fear of causing damage and then not being able to cut cardboard.
@JTsKnifeLife5 жыл бұрын
@@brucefarrar300 Understood, and yes, I'm saying I'm not particularly interested in the limits of what it can do. I'm interested in what I need for it to do. I dont care about ruining knives, I've done that countless times. But putting excessive force in a blade makes zero sense to me. By the same logic, I dont care that my car can go 120 mph. I only need to drive it 80. Can it go 80? Yes? Then I'm good.

Another excellent video. I saw your video from Blade and have been waiting on your review since then cause I really like the “boring” design. But I say “boring” as a big compliment, meaning everything that you need, and nothing that you don’t. Just a very solid, very usable, very utilitarian design. Only problem is that I do happen to be left handed. I agree that this really should be reversible. There’s absolutely no reason why it shouldn’t be. That I don’t understand. But, regardless, I have lots of knives that are right handed carry only and that doesn’t stop me from carrying them, so I’ll most likely wind up picking one up anyways. Just gotta decide between the gray G10 and that ebony wood. Decisions decisions. Ha. Hey man, do you have any stickers for your channel? I’d love to have one to go with the rest of my favorites, ie. A few things to check: 1) The pivot could be too tight. 2) There could be a lot of grime in the knife (extremely unlikely in a new Civivi, but still possible) 3) The detent might just be too weak (this would also be a very unusual flaw) Regardless, getting it on Amazon was smart, because returns are quick and easy. I don't like the fact that the blade isn't centered when seated in the closed position. I don't like to see any play in the blade ~ side to side or up and down. Are all Civivi Chinese knifes?
@JTsKnifeLife4 жыл бұрын
Yes, though they do have some none Chinese designers working with them now.

I'm not a fan of Chinese knives, but this is a really nice looking well thought out design. Hell, I don't even like flippers!

I had a old harbor freight knife I took the screw out of its clip and put my clip on the other side with some loctite and fixed mine to be left hand carry!
@JTsKnifeLife4 жыл бұрын
That's a good move. 👍

I hear you. I wish I'd thought to set it up and film it, but most of my knife use is impromptu, and by the time I thought of filming it I was just about done. Sorry to disappoint.

Great stuff dude. "Its just really good" most (bro-ish" ive ever heard you go.) LOL😂👊

I can be pretty bro-ish hahaha. Just getting too old for it!
My only issue with the Elementum and other Civivis is the clip I’ve had a couple that have sprung but not end of world. Able to remove and squeeze back Great knife Have the purple g10 and s35vn version And thinking about getting the black wood version

I'm sad as a left hander that this particular one you can't swap the pocket clip to the other side. Odd, on many or most of their other line you can. I say DANG. DANG!
@JTsKnifeLife5 жыл бұрын
It was odd, really didn't understand why they did that.

It seems Chinese companies are making better Chinese knives than American companies whose knifes are made in China. For example, I just bought a Kershaw Atmos. For ten bucks less I could have bought a Ganzo with much better materials and build quality.
@JTsKnifeLife5 жыл бұрын
While I agree with where you're coming from in a general sense (and I mention as much in the video) I also think it's a slippery slope to just assign value that way. Meaning that there will always be a cheaper knife with better materials or build quality out there. Sure, knives like the Atmos could be even more competitively priced, but if buy an Atmos and it functions properly, I don't worry about those comparisons too much. It'll drive you crazy if you do hahaha.
@John..185 жыл бұрын
Great sales pitch, !! Personally, I think the Ganzo FH41 is a lot better, and half the price,,
@JTsKnifeLife5 жыл бұрын
I've had some well made Ganzos, and I've had some crap ones. I haven't had a single bad Civivi, and I really don't know anyone who has. But I agree that Ganzo can make a great knife at a great price.
@robertsherman22855 жыл бұрын
@@JTsKnifeLife you are being too nice to the commenter. He is being snotty AND accusing you of being a shill! I'm going to guess that he hasn't even owned/used the knife in the review. I doubt you'll get banned from KZbin for calling out punks. That felt good.
@JTsKnifeLife5 жыл бұрын
@@robertsherman2285 I appreciate you doing it for me hahaha. That said, the guy had a fair point. That Ganzo is a heck of a knife.
