Originally I thought I might use a picture of real neanderthal stone tools, since there's a lengthy discourse in this chapter on their making and uses. But to my untrained and ignorant eye, every picture of them just looked like a bunch of dang rocks. SO Chapter image is a work of art depicting an imagined neanderthal knapping flint to make primitive (though sophisticated) stone tools. Art by José Emilio Toro Pareja torografic.com/en/home/

Appreciate the thought you put into the chapter images. They’re always an interesting touch.

A big literal handful of caviar straight form a beluga sturgeon's belly is probably the point in this novel where I most would like to be a paleolithic hunter gatherer on the coast of the black sea, thoguh I do wonder if they're actually all that good without the salt! Alas, I am no position to ever find out. C'est dommage

they used salts, and maybe this salty preparation of caviar dates back to their time. who knows

Yep. Already salty. We used to go sturgeon fishing in Oregon.

Whenever I think about eating fish eggs, I vomit a little in my mouth. That's just gross. I don't care how much it costs.

...oh dear someone decided to try and depict tribal life in one of our collective long dead cousins. Oh dear o me oh my. Surely this is the gravest insult to all things and must be banned from view! '....why?' Questions commonsense

@@siamihari8717I can see this offends you, but if we ban something..anything, where do we stop?

All he is missing is a lap covering. knapping stone leaves sharp chips, and needle or knife like points. He would have a leather apron or lap covering.

The author seems afraid to make Ayla a full lesbian, imo.
