It's good to hear this track without the over-produced key-board in the album version. It has a real 'Clash' quality about it. I think I may need to revisit this album.

you should listen the "working in a coal mine" bootleg! it shows that the clash II was actually really good! a very solid band, and way heavier live than the previous line-up due the fact that Mick was replaced with Vince White and Nick Sheppard

There's still a lot to be said for the album version. This live version is great but it's really jaunty. The album version is slower, Strummer's voice more pained & mournful. The album version sounds more like a lament which is what this song is...
@realsinisterminister3 жыл бұрын
Strange fact no.753...Strummer was taking voice lessons Bernie made him do with the same old bat they sent Rotten too early Pistols days..........I heard a rumour (hope its true) that they might redo cut the crap musically just leaving the origional joe vocals?........very far fetched but I think his voice on that album was spot on
@ravelgp2 жыл бұрын
According to Wikipedia, "North and South was written and sung by Sheppard" (Clash II guitarist). As for the "corrected" version of the album, look for "Cut the Crap rebooted" (if you haven't heard yet)
@sunsetman222 жыл бұрын
@@realsinisterminister there's this one guy that sort of "rebooted" CTC by adding new instrumentation (most of it inspired by the live versions or bootlegs) but keeping Joe's original vocals. I'd say it's neat, but if there's an official version of that from The Clash coming, that would be amazing too
@realsinisterminister2 жыл бұрын
@@sunsetman22 I think it is well passed now but I will check out the rebooted album I've only heard the "this is England" song done again and it sounded much better!
