The Clash of Giants - Korchnoi vs Kasparov, Lucerne 1982 | Olympiad Stories with Saravanan S01 E01

When asked about his favourite story from the Chess Olympiads, IM Saravanan mentions the crucial encounter between Viktor Korchnoi from Switzerland and Garry Kasparov from USSR at the Lucerne Olympiad 1982. This is not just a game, but a bout between two heavyweights. The story surrounding this one is filled with so many interesting little anecdotes that gives you an idea of what was going on at that point in the world - not just in chess, but in many other ways.
IM Sagar Shah is the host of this show and IM V. Saravanan is the man with all the stories. Together they dissect this game and the entire episode surrounding it.
Saravanan is known for his fantastic stories. As the Chess Olympiad is happening in India in 2022, we have decided to launch a series of 6 episodes where the most interesting stories of the past Olympiads are discussed. Each session is roughly around 40-50 minutes in length and will help you to improve your understanding and knowledge of the game!

Good to see sarvanan after so many years. We used to meet every year in sangli for Annasaheb Padsalgikar open tournament. Sarvanan, T S Ravi, G B Prakash and lot of very good players from tamilnadu. Swimming in the river and chit chat in the evening together was a lot of fun.

I am sorry but one thing I don't agree with sarvanan sir is "Chess is just a game.. enjoy it!!". We have seen players crying like anything. Sitting on the chair even after the game ends and thought why did I play that particular move, where did I go wrong. Chess is an "EMOTION". I myself thought one of my final games I lost in my office for so many days. That was my first game, I had remembered on my fingertip that I can tell every single move of the game!! BTW I am not a professional or FIDE-rated player. But what a storyteller you are Sarvanan sir. Just loved it!
