Lyrics
When they kick at your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun
When the law break in
How you gonna go?
Shot down on the pavement
Or waiting on death row
You can crush us
You can bruise us
But you'll have to answer to
Oh, the guns of Brixton
The money feels good
And your life you like it well
But surely your time will come
As in heaven, as in hell
You see, he feels like Ivan
Born under the Brixton sun
His game is called survivin'
At the end of the harder they come
You know it means no mercy
They caught him with a gun
No need for the Black Maria
Goodbye to the Brixton sun
You can crush us
You can bruise us
Yes, even shoot us
But oh-the guns of Brixton
When they kick at your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun
You can crush us
You can bruise us
Yes, even shoot us
But oh-the guns of Brixton
Shot down on the pavement
Waiting in death row
His game is called survivin'
As in heaven as in hell
You can crush us
You can bruise us
But you'll have to answer to
Oh, the guns of Brixton

a "Brixton local"? not a native - from where is the posh echelons of suburbia did you hail and where are you now since "doing London"? still a fun place but highly Disney-fied due to housing costs and whatnot. Brickie is now scattered around LDN overspill estates to the south. still though, hope you enjoyed your experience.

The only band that matter-ed till the post-punk movement, the no-wave scene, and perhaps the sludge metal and doom metal scenes. Also the current "band that matters" is probably Death Grips, they're kind of the Clash of our time in just how intellectually critical they are in relation to modern topics like the internet and its culture, along with this demented and abrasive sound and lyrical worldview (that ironically does have their roots in hardcore punk)

going back to songs like this makes me realize this certain energy and soul will never be replicated at least not organically, I'm not saying there won't be any more good music in the future, but this vibe is different and will forever be immortal.

Adrian Butoi ahaha such a shame he only wrote 2 songs ever for the clash, the first one he wrote he didn’t want to sing so it was forever known as pauls tune. I have to admit he is a god awful bass player but this song really proves his ability for song writing, especially for ska, he grew up listening to the right type of records

Holy shit This is where Cypress Hill got their inspiration from on the song "What's your name what's your number" I used to be a heavy rap listener until two years ago, when I found out the hard way where that lifestyle leads you.. But the fact that Cypress Hill was inspired by this made me genuinely smile.

Hey man I'm gonna sound like an old man, I love music as much as anyone and I love to hear juicy bass in my earbuds. But now I suffer from tinnitus (30yrs old, it'll come up on you fast) and while I can tolerate it to sleep, I watch out for noise levels now to keep it from worsening. Just stay aware and don't overdo it. It's irreversible.
