You don't matter as a person because the point of the world you live in is to make money and buy things. At first you think you're happy because you have material things, but then you begin to understand that life is more than that and that you can't buy happiness/serenity with money. After that epiphany, it's easy to fall in a state of chronic depression, which is due to our without-morals and capitalistic society.

God, what an amazing song. It captures so many ideas and emotions within: the vapidity of modern society, and the alienation and isolation it causes, issues with depression and social anxiety that arise out of said alienation, the works. Truly, this is an all-time classic.

This might be one of the most ahead of its time songs ever. Everything from the drums and vocals to even the guitar tone is so modern sounding that if they released it as a modern indie song today, it would still sound fresh, and is still lyrically relevant. It’s a shame this song never got the same mainstream appeal as some of their other big radio hits because this track is incredible.
