The 68s are truly amazing. I only found out about the Fife Circle services being stopped after lockdown started, so I too didn't get a chance to travel on one (although I do have an N gauge model of one of the SR liveried locos, 68006 "Daring", a truly stunning model). It's also nice to see the introduction of the bi-mode class 88 and maybe even the tri-mode 93, although I don't think any have been ordered yet. This was a great video, and I need to go for a trip on one of these services sometime!

Absolutely brilliant 👍 I've only just discovered this channel (and subscribed), after re-watching some of GLovesTrains older videos Maybe one day I might get round to spending a day on the TPE 68s, which I still haven't done despite being on my bucket list ever since they started running. Apparently there is going to be six diagrams on any one day from the May 2022 timetable change

1. Love the speech at the start. Couldn't have said it better myself. 2. Love the Class 68's, awesome locos, awesome sound. 3. I've got a 00-gauge Dapol model of 68032 Destroyer on pre-order, with sound of course, along with a Mk5 set from Accurascale. 4. While I don't agree with you about the Mk5 DVT being beautiful, it has grown on me since I first saw it. Though I do think cool is a better word to describe it. 5. Great video once again, AJ. Vossloh/CAF have also built the Class 88 Bi-Mode locomotives and the upcoming Class 93 Tri-Mode locomotives. With Chiltern Railways and Transpennine Express using the Class 68 locomotives and ScotRail also used the Class 68s which I think they don't use them anymore. But the Class 68 locomotives are very powerful diesel locomotives. And Chiltern Railways Class 68 "68 010" is named "Oxford Flyer". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_68 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_88 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_93_(Stadler)

Snazzy intro! I find it quite amusing that, after having 25-30 years where pretty much the _only_ loco-hauled trains were intercity services (apart from occasionally hiring in class 37s to cover for a shortage of units), we've now turned it round and the once the few remaining HSTs are pensioned off from EMR and XC, the only loco-hauled trains left will be regional expresses - Chiltern, TransPennine, Great Western and Scotrail - but nothing that is traditional intercity.

Nice Videos on Nice Trains! I know sounds are key for us, I am surprised that TPE used Class 68's instead of Class 88's (Class 68 with pantograph) or Class 93's (Class 88 with onboard Battereies) due to environment concerns.

Yeah, I can only assume it's to keep to timings while a lot of the Trans-Pennine route the NOVA 3s work is non-electrified? Fine by me though!
@srfurley2 жыл бұрын
Is there an electric version of these locomotives? I seem to remember seeing something that looked similar, but with a pantograph, at Carlisle.
@HeyItsAJOmega2 жыл бұрын
Yes! The Class 88 - technically it's bi-mode, so it has a diesel engine *and* electric power. From the outside they look identical aside from the pantograph, and I believe they are named after old Woodhead Electric locomotives :)
