Very nice restore. You're making me want to try changing a handle to octagonal just to see how it feels. I have a few heads that need handles so may one of those in the upcoming months may fit the bill.
@toolscouter

In my opinion, they are the best! For me, the creases in your knuckles on the inside of your hand, find the facets quickly. The orientation of the tool in your hand is quickly acquired, and it doesn’t slip or oscillate from side to side. Do give it a try. You may find out that I am making something complicated that should be simple.😄 Let me know how it goes. Thanks for your visit and have a great weekend.

I'm thinking you're right. I recently started taking some blacksmithing classes and in the summer my hand sweats, A LOT. I was thinking exactly what you said, that the octagonal handle would help me have a better grip. I'll let you know.

@toolscouter i have quite a few octagonal handles also. I've always liked them. My dad and grandfather both had octagonal handle hammers when i was a kid. Maybe it's just the memory of them that makes them appealing to me

I like how you peened back the mushrooming vs just grinding it off. I have a very mushroomed brass hammer to submit as well and will use that technique to minimize “brass loss”! Very nice handle shape - looks like it would nestle right down into the palm of your hand. Great video and I look forward to seeing all of the Uwannawatch submissions!

My favorite brass hammer is a Snap-On deadblow. I don't think that the faces were intended to becremoved or replaced. They are still in fine condition, but as a mechanics hammer, the handle and head are dirty. Is scrubbing the plastic part clean, acceptable as a brass hammer challenge entry. After I purchased mine, I found that it was an ideal steel punch driver. Using it gains deadblow function, and the soft faces don't mar or mushroom my high-end punches and chisels. I have a well-worn copper faced hammer that I value for driving the drawbar on my mill. It is very ugly, though still very functional for this purpose. It warrants a serious makeover, but I don't have tome niw to enter George's brass hammer challenge!

Sounds like you have a good quality collection of tools. I don’t know if a plastic wrapped snap on brass hammer qualifies or not? You would have to ask Uwannawatch. It sure would be a little more unconventional, but who knows. Thanks for watching a video and sharing your ideas. Have a great weekend.

nice looking hammer. I would go to the uwannawatch channel, but the image on his channel icon looks like he or a person is drinking an alcoholic drink, which i am against. I Thessalonians 5:21 - 22 21 "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. "

If that’s your conviction, I completely understand and would not want you to do anything that would go against your principles. Personally, I don’t want to burn bridges where God may lead. I am always convicted when I read about Him eating with the tax collectors. I want to have an influence to speaking into other peoples lives as often as I can. I don’t always have to condone or participate, nor do I look for opportunities to do so. I do care that everyone bears the image of God, and is worthy of my time. I so appreciate your spirit and thank you for sharing. Have a great weekend and may God bless you richly.

@@toolscouter Oh i never took it as you trying to persuade or coerce me at all. I feel it was convicti0on of the Holy Spirit, and His reminding me of what Jesus Christ did on this earth, and my desire to be like Him. Yes, i do appropriate openness and discussion. It is a blessing to speak to another born again Christian. God bless you and your family
