Honestly, I am just enjoying this better. I just enjoyed being informed and I was just not enjoying the jokes and banter. I'm pretty sure that's heresy to say that, but hey at I'm I'm still here and watching when I feel like it. And even though I am still here, I think the feeling does represent a clue to why the channel only get 5-digits views now versus when it used to get millions. It's just not as enjoyable as it used to be. But I really enjoyed this vid, maybe this represents a path to how this channel can make a comeback.

Yup. This is a game dev concept called ‘adjusted difficulty.’ Because let’s be real, a computer could kick a player’s ass easily if it wanted to. But a developer’s main goal is to make games fun and exciting. Kind of like how a dungeon master’s goal isn’t to kill their players, but to make a fun and engaging game session.

On the note of these mechanics in multiplayer games, the Guilty Gear series has something really similar to the Doom one called "guts". Where the lower your health, the less damage you take. Giving you the reward of feeling like you're hitting like a truck early in the round, while keeping the match feeling close later on.
@DanielRieger3 жыл бұрын
this was a smart way to keep the channel alive
@TheN.C.R.Ranger3 жыл бұрын
A lot of the examples mentioned in this video I like, with the exception of the Gears one. When it comes to multiplayer PvP it should be all about a player's skill. I'm not against skill based matchmaking to an extent, but adjusting something like the amount of damage a player does so that they can get a kill doesn't teach the player how to be better at the game. All that does is give the player basically a free kill that they didn't really earn based on the game's actual rules. That and it makes it harder for players to understand what they did wrong if they were on the receiving end of the boosted damage shot.
@Gamer883343 жыл бұрын
Well, the bright side is the damage boost doesn't matter if you were headshotted by someone using a sniper. Then you'll know to pay a bit more attention to what's going on around you, not just to what's in front of you.
@TheGuardDuck3 жыл бұрын
I get you, OP, but the alternative is better. Imagine you enter a multiplayer game for the first time and get PWNED HARD. You ever gonna come back? This wasn't a handicap for losers, but just a very brief phase of "beginner's luck". Only the rare first-timers to the community would ever have that edge. After that first game, they're level with the rest.
@ELPRES1DENTE453 жыл бұрын
Even though the Daily is dead, I really wish that they'd still make this type of content more regularly. They should still cover news more often when it makes for a sufficiently decent story. They should easily be able to find guest hosts that wouldn't mind contributing for the prospect of a little cross-promotion.

I think Ubisoft does the same mechanic with the Odyssey's "second-wind" in the Division. It seems if you get shot by an Elite sniper, you're left with a few % of hp. Then, if you get hit again, even after recovered to full hp and armor, you'd actually die from his shot. Like the mechanic has a hidden internal cooldown of "no-one-shotted"
@TheGuardDuck3 жыл бұрын
Then there's games so lazy you can just stand there and snipers can't kill you...

These are the exact things that design and interaction are supposed to do! Like the "Shuffle" mode on Apple Music, which used to be 100% random. However, because random statistical chance can still play 3 or more songs from the same album in a row, people became frustrated that it didn't "feel" random. So Apple actually implemented an algorithm to make shuffle "feel" more random than true random actually is!
@Zack_Wester3 жыл бұрын
there is another problem whit the random system its not random and it was known back in the day to be so bad people could figure out the random code by creating a playlist in windows Media player stuff it whit 100 tracks play first track hit next note what track it played and then guess the next 30 track windows media player would pick in random when you hit next. Note even back then Random was not random as WMP if I recall could not pick the track you just played so if you started whit track one and random next then it would never pick track 1 even if in a true random that can happen. now days it better because the random seed is using the computer clock when called. works great for regular stuff but not for anything else and breaks if you need to make 5 rolls at the same time (all 5 will be the same). Another thing is whats random and I think Apple should in its random system impalemt you know rules the player can pick. like when playing random may I pick a track that already been played or do I need to pick a track that have not been played before.
@DapperDanLovesYou3 жыл бұрын
@@Zack_Wester I get what you're saying! I can't vouch for any other or earlier playlist systems or their "randomness." But my mention of Apple's shuffle algorithm anecdote has less to do with the actual concept of computing and more to do with every human's cognitive bias and poor estimation abilities. Users felt like "true random" didn't feel random, because, like all humans, they're biased towards finding small patterns, remembering these as broad generalizations, and crafting entire philosophical ideologies from these flawed beliefs. Random means there is no discernable pattern or reason, but leave it to a human to find consistency within chaos!

I'm surprised you didn't mention how the last bullet in a clip tends to do a lot more damage in many FPS games. Although, I guess most people already know about that one by now.
@TheGuardDuck3 жыл бұрын
You mean some people don't immediately reload after firing one bullet?😋 I do know some games have perks to boost the last bullet, but is this a real thing that can be a hidden mechanic?
@Zack_Wester3 жыл бұрын
@@TheGuardDuck and in some game its stated that the last bullet does more also there is a bit of code for finisher. meaning if I fire 3 shot each dealing 33 damage then the game would let the last shot do 34 damage.
@TheGuardDuck3 жыл бұрын
@@Zack_Wester Well, 33 to 34 is kinda negligible. Sounds like it's got some coding reason behind it, like about keeping damage at appropriate amounts to match health values, or something like that.

That Bioshock one about the first shot always missing makes me think of one i theorized: Minesweeper. You will never hit a land mine on the first move. I’ve only ever tested this through experience and never verified, but I never have landed on a mine. If anyone can confirm or counter, I’d be most appreciated.
@stefanejegod86443 жыл бұрын
There is probably something baked-in to help you start up, but I have played around with it and you can totally get a bomb at first try, try it out with a custom game where you can set the "map" size and the amount of bombs. I think it has more to do with the actual bomb placement, rather than placement-based-on-first-strike. Usually the player will start the game by clicking something like the middle 1/3-bit, and I'd guess that space have less bombs than the rest.
@Z3DT3 жыл бұрын
This is correct. The map for minesweeper is determined with the first click, not before

I generally steer away from any mechanic where it feels like the game is playing for me, or set up in a way that it feels rigged to help me. I want enemies who challenge me, not easy targets that give me multiple opportunities to redeem myself if I make mistakes, or ai companions/abilities that play the game for me. I am an old school gamer, so all the hand holding these days can get a bit much. Having said this i don't mind good game design that enhances player experience.
@Gamer883343 жыл бұрын
How do you feel about Left 4 Dead's AI Director? The AI Director will both challenge you and help you. How much it does either depends on how well your team is doing. If it's doing poorly, the Director might spawn a med kit and/or better weapons in a random part of the map in the next chapter. If your team's doing good, the Director might spawn a Tank or even more Common Infected somewhere up ahead. Remember: you can't just avoid Tanks that are spawned randomly. You're going to have to fight them because most of the time, running away isn't an option. They usually spawn in Chapters that have a Crescendo Event, meaning you're gonna have to kill 'em anyway, You don't want to get swarmed by a Tank and Common Infected. Besides, fighting them is easier anyway. I was once part of a team that killed a Tank within 5-10 seconds.
@1upnever1123 жыл бұрын
@@Gamer88334 that system sounds great. It rewards both good players who strive for challenge, and less able players who are picking things up. It caters to the enjoyment of all players skill levels.
@Gamer883343 жыл бұрын
@@1upnever112 I just remembered that Payday 2 has a DLC heist that does something kind of similar. After you get to a certain point, the person hiring you will open a crate. That crate will always contain C4 (because you need it to blow up radar dishes) and either a medic bag, ammo bag, or grenade case. It depends on which of the latter your team needs the most. But you should always bring your own ammo and medic bags instead of relying on the game to supply you with what you need because A: that option isn’t available in every heist, B: the supplies you can buy may not last long since your upgrades to ammo and medic bags only apply to the ones you bring to the heist, and C: there’s a heist called Big Oil. You can buy an ammo drop on the second part but it most likely won’t be in good locations. Some ammo bags will land in locations that’re exposed, others will land in locations that aren’t accessible. But it might be worth buying since you might get lucky and have them land in good locations.

I think a good one to add would have been how BR games hijack a risk/reward impulse, similar to gambling. You drop in, roll the dice on loot and enemies, it either pays off or you die and reroll. I've also noticed in Warzone that if you're losing too often, the game will kind of throw you a bone and switch you into much easier lobbies in which it seems like the other players might be suffering from much higher server latency.

Actually, vehicles were coded into the game (otherwise we wouldn't see all those cars). They just aren't coded to be usable in terms of being able to drive them, but that didn't mean you couldn't use them as bombs in the right situation.

For the most part im fine whit the helper stuff and nudger as long as 1 its something thats natural or logical. And 2 its not massive, and preferable communicated. I mean we I played mario kart and I did not know about the last player getting catch up boosts I would be a bit mifft but as I know about it maybe not the exact detail but that there is a nudger there im fine whit it. this also requires that the nudger is not massive. Like how in over watch a player whit poor aim gets leeway when the computer decided if a shot hits. yes you can have two player make the exact same shot on a hanzo player that's standing still where both shots miss his shoulder whit 3 inches. where for the lower skilled player the shot hit but for the pro player it would miss.
