Lola, similar experience with myself as well. I tried on a dress I saw in a magazine that I loved and a store near where I lived stocked it. So I went alone to try it on as my mother and I didn't get along due to her judgemental personality, I chose to have a stress free fitting. I wore that dress and everyone loved it, but I still wish I'd tried on more dresses. But I too have been married to the same guy for 23 years now, still love him always will.

Julia Sikes I know that, and they’re probably also on commission, but it’s super annoying to watch imo. It’s also most common on the UK version I find, rather than the other ones. This one wasn’t as hugely over budget as other ones I’ve seen, but for her it was still an extra %25. I’d be a bit bummed if I fell in love with an over budget dress that they helped pick for me.

Julia Sikes yeah... I do definitely appreciate when I see in episodes that sometimes a consultant will warn the bride like “hey, unfortunately this is over budget. Would you still like to try it on?” Because I’ve seen brides go “Yeah, sure!!!” And also “Oh, no that’s okay”. I would definitely appreciate knowing beforehand so if I did fall in love with the dress the price wouldn’t be a surprise and have me possibly reconsider it :( .....but who knows how I’ll be thinking years from now when I do eventually get married haha

Honestly! I would NEVER go to this wedding shop. "with her budget and her size and 12 weeks". I bought a designer dress one month before the wedding. I was lucky they had my size, but NO ONE gave me any shit. They keep presenting the same dresses and always go over budget when the budget is low-ish while huge budgets get affordable dresses, that cost less than the "low ish" ones... and 25% over is not a "smidge over". It's because at these bridal shops women try on dresses, and then the consultants measures the brides and send the measurements of to the designers to custom fit them for each individual. If you're someone with generally proportioned figure in a normal size range, off the rack can work well, but many people need extensive alterations or custom fit to have such heavy gowns fit appropriately.
