Several of the matches of women's soccer from 2012 are already posted on the Olympic channel, but this match has not been posted. A great bunch of 1990's talent right there! Many of those same finalists would go on to contest the next Olympic final four years later in Atlanta, which Devers would win very narrowly again at the expense of the great Merlene Ottey, arguably the greatest female sprinter never to have won an Olympic Gold. After Atlanta, Irina Privalova, realizing that she'd never be able to beat Devers in the 100m, went on to retrain for the 400m, for which she won gold at the Sydney 2000 OIympics!
@RKRKRK78
@RKRKRK78 3 жыл бұрын
A few errors: Privalova moved to the 400mh not the open 400m. She didn't switch because she realized she'd never be able to beat Devers in the 100m. By then, Devers was long gone, Privalova ran 10.83 as late as 1998, but she suffered from a lot of injuries training for sprints and thus moved up. Plus there was Marion Jones.

If you freeze it at 5:40 Ottey looks so much farther behind Torrence than Torrence looks behind Privalova, but both differences in time are .02. I consider this the best womens 100m race of all time in an Olympic or World Championship final based on the blazing times and the razor-thin margins between the top 5 ladies (all well under 11:00).

I have so much respect for Marilyn Otty. She was a very fine sprinter but her luck did not work in Big events like the Olympics. The opposite is Shally-ann, no matter the pace she lost in the normal season but in Big events, her luck makes her achieve peak form. Despite being Jeter in the top form from 2009 - 2012, Shally made all shocked in London 2012.
