The Closest I’ve Been to a Tornado! - Morse, Iowa 5/23/2020

The forecast and models called for big tornado event in Illinois. Instinct and a late start led me to make the tough call to chase in Iowa. Just after noon, I had a close encounter with an EF1 tornado NE of Iowa City and a second EFI tornado with beautiful storm structure near Mechanicsville, Iowa. An awe inspiring day that should not have happened. 5/23/2020

"Heart-stopping" is when you learn 10 minutes after the fact that you came within seconds of being chewed up and spit out by an EF 3 tornado that was leveling an apartment complex just as you were passing in front of it. It was rain-wrapped and the guy I was following slowed down because he couldn't see. Sirens were everywhere. My thoughts at the time: "I wonder where it hit?"
