I still feel the same stirring emotional reaction to the Superman music. Superman was on our side.

Yeah, it did the same thing to me as a kid, and I never forgot it. I think that's why I posted it when the "Lurking Clown" craze was going on.

These older b+w episodes were great. Very dark, noir-ish chapters, featuring stories like this.

The thrilling musical score adds excitement to the battle between the good clown and the bad clown.

I don't know if you know that the music underscoring this scene is by Miklos Rozsa, the piece being a portion of his concert work Theme, Variations and Finale, which he wrote long before he started scoring movies.

Along with the music..the acting, the special effects and the acting in this scene makes even more exciting..N Bachers.

I've long enjoyed this brief music score included in several second season episodes, along with the film score from 1961 with KING OF KINGS, not realizing the connection being Miklos Rosza.

N Bachers I miss that in movies and Tv dramas. The music masters are long gone i.e. Max Steiner, Dimitri Tiomkin, Bernard Herrmann to name a few

Always loved that once all the bullets are gone, they throw the gun and they duck. Even more so when Superman would let the bullets bounce off his chest, but duck for the gun.
@capnhawk515 жыл бұрын
Urban Myth. Superman ducked from a thrown gun in just one episode, "The Mind Machine." Even then, the Superman who ducked was a stunt man, not George Reeves.

I taped this episode and a lot of other The Adventures of Superman on my VCR. In 2000 , TVLand used to have Marathon weekends of old TV shows and one weekend it was the Adventures of Superman. I used to like the color episodes of TAOS because they were more like the comic book version of Superman. I'm older now and like the black and white episodes because they were more noirish and violent , hence more realistic. I think the owner of DC comics , Harry Donenfeld and accountant Jack Liebowitz wanted to tone down the violence because of the backlash against the comic book industry in the 1950s. The early 1950s episodes of Superman were more violent and seemed to be written for adults to watch along with the children. Comic books were accused of teaching kids about violence and crime and people were campaigning to get rid of them. The color episodes were more humourous and DC decided to have them filmed in color because it was believed within 10 years or so ( the mid to late 1960s) people would have color television and it would be easier to sell the series in major markets ( Los Angeles , New York , Chicago , Cleveland , Miami, Dallas , Washington D. C. , etc.)
