It's one of those rare movies that had been completely obscure to most anime viewers as a whole, and I remember a couple years back I tried to make people aware of it existence (prior to there being a proper fansub available out there). After the shut down of the servers, the welfare and economy has shut down following. Halting any intake of resources and products used to make Pizza. The civil war started because Certain Penguins used Puffles as an alternative to their main consumation, and the traditionalists became radical to the point of declaring war for Puffle rights and to put an end to riots and the lot. Gary the gadget guy was on the traditionalist side, along with Aunt Arctic as a symbolic figure, however Rockhopper doesn't wish to get involved and no one has seen him since. Children who hide in bunkers before the bombing runs, often tell stories of his legendary trips, before going to fight themselves. When they started with advanced weaponry, they eventually devolved into using crude iceballs or projectile weaponry. Suffice to say, the Island was akin to the frozen, blood-covered dirty remains of the battle of Hoth. The Penguins will eventually run out of ammunition, or simply use sticks and stones. That's if they can get past the ferrel puffles, who became ferocity incarnate after being trained into killers of war. The Puffles used for message-carrying, after the surgence of radio-interception, are the only remnants of benign puffle psychology, and fuck even then they're vicious. The skies have been filled with dirt due to the factories in constant motion, the sun becoming a distant memory. The Sensei? He died a broken man. Rookie? He's a veteran now. On the whole, this movie is a nice little fantasy to escape into when things get too real.

Poor mike, I had a online freind who I used to talk to who was an old man who fought in Vietnam... me and him played a call of duty game and told me how it realy went on... I was the last person he hung out with a week before they found him dead a couple days latter, he told me so many stories and he had a beautiful life that was hit with one long dark patch that made everything just a bit dim when he got back to regular life. He was a great man and a loving father, brother, husband, and grandfather.

To add on to the history lesson at the beginning, this whole thing was actually a collaboration between Konami & Sunsory Beer. Konami basically took the penguin character from their game _Antarctic Adventure_ (first released on the MSX in 1983) and made both TV ads and this movie advertising that beer. All around this character from one of their games.

You should check out the 1978 anime movie Ringing Bell (Chirin no suzu) also starring cute character designs that get's dark real fast. And unlike Penguin Memories, Ringing Bell is supposed to be for kids. It's based on a Japanese novel of the same name and based on parts of WWII.
