I’d feel much more comfortable with James Paterson as the home affairs minister compared to Tony Burke.

The current Labor government has established quite a track record of slap dash legislation being rammed through. I recall your excellent work re: Huawei, James, and was astounded by the amount of potentially compromised technology had been installed in high security locations. I’m disheartened that neither party seems to be attending to rights and privacy laws, in relation to evolving technology. No vehicle should be able to “listen in” to occupants. It’s disappointing to see that our fundamental rights are such a low priority. What assurances do we have of our private information remaining private, in regards to the under 16 social media laws (cynical legislation which won’t achieve their intended purpose), and/or digital ID? The appointment of the e-Safety commissioner is a blight on the previous and current governments. That appointment, illustrated by her interventions, has been blatantly political, and an egregious obstruction to our right to share information (I’m referring to the case of an Australian representative at an advisory body to the WHO: a matter of public interest, censored on Twitter). At any rate, an excellent speech, James. Thank you for all you do, and to our public servants who work in Signals Detection and cyber security.

Thank you senator James Paterson, another amazing man asking and digging with the right questions and showing up the parasites that know jack and avoid or don't the know the answers to questions asked.

Where are the other senators, don't they care about cyber security, might be part of the reason Australia has a problem with the internet and its security, could explain why labor has removed funding for cyber security

These SPECIALIZED POSITIONS REGARDING SECURITY OF AUSTRALIA MUST EMPLOY SPECIALISTS IN CYBER SECURITY ..NOT PUBLIC SERVANTS WHO SAIL ALONG 'ON EASY STREET ' IN ALL THESE 'USED BY DATES' CAREER SERVANTS.MANY OF THEM WILL NOT CHANGE WITH THE TIMES..SO GIVE OUR YOUNG GRADUATES A CHANCE.!

Remember not everyone reports to ASD. Some entities are not required to report to ASD for example contractors or sole traders. There is also no real incentive for all entities to report as at current time, you will not necessarily receive any assistance. There needs to be allowance for government technical intervention at a time of a cyber attack. I would be one to agree to government officers getting on my network if it meant you could be up and running after an attack in the time the department of defence for example may be. I actually think it's the only way to beat foreign state actors. I've witnessed an attack by a foreign state actor. It will change your perspective for ever. By the time you realise you have a problem, you've had the problem for a while and it's going to take you a while to realise that if your the one it guy by yourself but you wouldn't trust Labor with that. What was the cyber highlight this year? Have a pass phrase. No explanation on how to make one. Just "have one". Thanks.
