This song was originally released in 1935, The Coasters released their beautiful Rock and Roll version in 1958 on the flip side of their Number 1 hit Yakety Yak. Originally outside of the mainstream doo-wop, their songs were frequently imitated. They became an important part of the doo-wop legacy through the 60's. The rich deep tones of the vocals, along with beautiful orchestra, the sax fluttering throughout, just an amazing time in music. Lovely memories. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Romello. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

That deep voice sure tickles a memory from young childhood and listening to the car radio going down the highway. I think I've always liked the deep voices, like Bowzer from the doo wop band Sha Na Na .

My mum loved the doo wop so we did. The Ink Spots; The Platters; The Miller Bros. I think and of course The Coasters.

This was the original hit, but for CDs they left on the studio chatter at the end from the master tapes. Hey, speaking of bass leads, check out "Sixty Minute Man" by the Dominos from 1951, the very first black R&B vocal group song to crossover onto the white charts, about a guy boasting of his prowess with the ladies.

For a great deep-bass voice, you must react to "Framed" by the Coasters. It's been remade by other artists, including Ritchie Valens and Cheech & Chong.

The Coasters are an American R&B/rock & roll/doo-wop vocal group who had a string of hits in the late 1950s-60's. Most of their novelty songs are fun & happy & a bit kooky. "Down In Mexico", "One Kiss Led To Another", "Wake Me, Shake Me", "Young Blood", "Charlie Brown", "Along Came Jones", "Little Egypt (Ying-Yang)", "Love Potion No. 9" (Clovers had the bigger hit).

Wow, I’ve only ever heard this song by Judy Garland & even knowing the song so well, I barely recognized it all dressed up in doo wop, lol. It was definitely a lot of fun this way, tho. Here is a jazzy/swing version by a very young Judy Garland if you are interested to hear the difference! kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5zcd4FvjMmNhKcsi=w6ovGJUlAbjwrQo9

Been enjoying this track 50+years, much older song than that tho, Judy garland and before, I prefer this version to the more played “Tramps” version, got a bit more Latin feel to it, absolute 🔥 tho ❤

Since you like low voices, you should look up Paul Robeson. He was an international star from the 20's to the 50's. He was harassed by the government because he was Black and because of his politics.

Harri, you should try and play the mono release for this old stuff. Quite often the stereo version was a different take and could be somewhat different. That was especially true for Atlantic Records who recorded this track although this one seems identical. One thing's for sure, that my 78 of this record isn't in stereo. I still have the disc but nothing to play it on. My last record deck with the ability to play such antiquities topped out at about 63 rpm, slowed down slightly and then blew up 😱😥 Thankfully I have this and most of the other Coasters recordings on 45, 33, CD and mp3. 🤩. My mother never liked this version. I think she remembered it from before WWII and couldn't deal with this arrangement. Thankfully, she'd gotten used to my weird taste by 1961 and grudgingly did not object to The Marcels "Blue Moon" kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWSodmuOrd1jo9E The bass voice taking the lead was quite well established by 1958. Here's the Dominoes from 1951 with "60 Minute Man" kzbin.info/www/bejne/pnvFdXutlNamfNU BTW. The studio chat at the end was not on the original release which simply faded. The Jerry referred to at the end of the chat is probably Jerry Leiber of Leiber and Stoller, the writing and production team (and Svengalis) behind the Coasters hits.
