I blew my evo x 😥, I was running an access port and when I took it to the dealer (3weeks fresh off the lot lol). Of course I told them I didn't have an access port and I flashed the Ecu 😂. any ways at first I was heated thinking I blew my car due to Running the access port on stage 1. that was not the case, Mitsubishi of Puente Hills sold me the car with in 3 days that some one traded it in for a final additional and never did a full inspection like they claimed. The 4th Spark Plug was at fault due to it not having any kind of gap. The Car ran toooooo Rich and after my little 4th Gear pull, my motor shut off. when the tow truck came I turned it on so we would not have to push it. I shot flames at idle 😂😂😂😂. 1 month later New Block who Dis 😂.

Cobb says I can run the 91 map and use 91 oct or higher when it comes to fuel. does this mean I can run 93 or 94 oct on the 91 map? there's up too 101 octane in my area so I'd like to see if I can play around with it a bit

Jake I would take Cobbs word if they told you you can run higher octanes on the 91 map. But look into finding Cobbs higher octane maps if they offer them, seems to make more sense running the correct octane with the map.

@ZFA17384 жыл бұрын
Pitties and a STI anything other than oem cat wont pass smog in California. Intake will pass if smog legal. Boost controller is also fine. But once you mess with the catalytic converter and have an intake that’s not carb legal will not pass.

Okay so hear is my question with some history. I purchased a 2017 STI Base model, drove the car all summer with no mods or issues. Over winter break I installed the NVIDIA N1 CBE, I also purchased the Cobb Access port with Cobb's intake kit (not yet installed). I am not looking to get power gains or anything but wanted more turbo and intake noise. However, I was recommended to get a pro tune for the car and to upgrade the fuel pump/injectors... is the pump and injectors really needed!?
@NVRFinished6 жыл бұрын
Jdubbs I would say not, especially if you aren’t looking for any power gain. The Cobb accessport will do fine for those mods since that is what it is made for. I ran that set up for months of fairly hard driving and no issues. Anything more than that and I would recommend a protune.

I have a 2017 STI and I was confused about all this too. I wanted to run a Perrin Intake, with a Tomei cat back Exhaust and a Cobb accessport, but I didn't know what map to download or if this would run correctly. Please help me out, thank you!
@NVRFinished8 жыл бұрын
As long as the Intake, and exhaust have all the same dimensions/pieces as Cobb's you should be good with the Stage 1 Tune. Running a Catback isn't "supposed" to need a tune, but anything that may affect the cars performance, its a good idea to get it tuned. That being said, Cobb doesn't have an OTS tune for just a catback, so for now, run the stage 1 tune (as long as the Perrin Intake is similar to Cobbs intake) and you should be good to go. But look into either going full turboback and going Stage 2, or go to a pro tuner and get a custom map built.
@dannyflores26568 жыл бұрын

Hey guys! Recent buyer of a 2017 WRX. Just curious what your opinion is on tuning the car vs keeping the warranty. I'm kind of set on waiting the 3 years before going Stage 2 to start. But if you plan to add lots of performance parts over the years I can totally understand that the warranty doesn't matter. But say for a guy like me probably never going past Stage 2 but I want to tune it to do away with the rev hang issue and have a little increase in power, should I even worry that anything would happen to the motor in the first 3 years? (I drive like a normal person. In the middle between high school kid just got his license and driving like a mom.)

@NVRFinished7 жыл бұрын
MsWRX it would really depend on what parts are being put on, something more simple would be fine, but something like a full exhaust would be more risky. Some shops will send you a temporary tune to load onto your AccessPort (if you have one) to drive down then they will retune it there.
@NVRFinished7 жыл бұрын
+MsWRX it depends on the parts you are gonna install your self. Once you starts messing with the down pipe your gonna wanna run at least a stage 2 Cobb tune before driving bc turbos are very fussy and rely on proper air flow. And certain mods increase flow and the computer needs to be able to adjust properly

I wouldn't recommend ots maps for long term at all. There are many problems that can arise. I only recommend them for starting out with little mods. A custom tune would be the best for a certain car which is better for performance and safety
@boosti_alex14288 жыл бұрын
Krzysztof Kunka agreed
@TheBallisticSerb7 жыл бұрын
Krzysztof Kunka A custom tune is always the best way to go. But running the AP for long period of time does no harm. The OTS maps are so conservative that it won't do any harm to the motor at all. Custom Tuning is another ball game and you need to be more careful you don't run more than what the stock internals can handle. But yes a pro tune is the best way to go nonetheless 👍

William Jefferson Clinton you'll never truly get rid of rev hang unless you get an older car with a cable operated throttle body however the stage 1 ots map does a fairly good job. The power band is smoothed out as well and the car keeps pushing passed 5000 rpm unlike the stock map where it dies off. Also you lose that bit of a kick right when the turbo spools when you go stage 1

Cesar Arreola I know Cobb provides a Stage 1 tune that does not have the Big SF intake built into it. It's just the bare bones tune that will change how your car drives but just uses the info from the stock intake. I would assume it's very similar to the Stage 1 + Big SF tune.

It's wrong to underestimate the OTS, a lot of development went into them. You really don't need to use COBB's parts, it's just that they are not guaranteeing that the part you interchange will work; their OTS maps are meant for typical intake and exhaust upgrades. And beyond that, ECU custom tuning is important. Aside, with just a Stge 1 map on my WRX, output is more consistent.

Great sense of humor but for anybody who doesn't want a preschool explanation of what an engine map is.. its essentially a set of parameters that your engine is designed to operate within based off the data received from sensors placed throughout the car such as your MAF sensor, MAP sensor, oxygen sensor, throttle position sensor, and so on..you can change those parameters by remapping your engines ecu to to achieve different performance goals and to accommodate for any modifications made to the engine

As long as you have a protune planned its fine running the OTS, I'm talking more about the people who cheap out and only run OTS. I got a protune scheduled in 2 weeks at a cobb shop =D. Full catless, tgv deletes, egr deletes, intake and boost controller. Make sure you have a grimmspeed boost controller. My tuner said he wont touch my car w/o one. I dont even push my car hard, never go above 4500 rpm. I just hate the oem tune and the OTS tunes so might as well get some mods if im going pro tune right?, gonna get tuned for 16 psi and no more. It scares me that people are running 20 psi, the FA rods are weak.
