I like Stu. You gotta give him credit- he made the NHL, and after that, became a lawyer. His product was his fists, and he was smart enough to know that.

Agreed. There is nothing stopping anyone from using this tactic. It was used all through hockey history and was never considered cheap, it was a legit tactic.

The Grim Reaper a jesus freak talking about "The code".Bollocks. What about the amount of times he lost it on the ice. He was no stranger to taking cheap shots.
@SCROGY11 жыл бұрын
MrJuha, it's a legit tactic and just because some guys got good at it doesn't make it cheap. You aren't out there to be nice, it's a fight. And you fight to win. Probert was good at it because he had great balance. Lots of fighter have used certain tactics over the years: McSorley used a goalie jersey, Brown used a super tight jersey and Kordic use velcro on his sleeves. Fighters SHOULD always be looking for an advantage and if they're not smart enough to find one it's their problem.

I dont have a problem with Stu as a player. I have a problem with him attacking the game and Don Cherry after he spent his career benefitting from being a fighter. Dave Schultz did the same thing: ripped the game apart in his book: The Hammer

Oddly as they worked to eliminate fighting from hockey the fights that do happen, don't abide by the code as much. Lots of guys jumping others because of what they perceived as a "dirty" (usually legal) hit.

Sure Stu's a really nice guy, but still... put him in a hockey uniform and I'd shit my pants.
@caleallan636711 жыл бұрын
Dude there is nothing wrong with jerseying a guy. Its been a fighting tactic for decades. Some guys do it more then other but you look at any respected fighter, Laraque, Domi, Probert, Ray, McRae, Laperriere, they've all done it at one time or another. No one likes to be jersey'd but its part of fighting and there's a way to defend yourself against it. If these guys who have made a living off fighting in hockey have no issue with it I don't see why you should.
@ohaider10112 жыл бұрын
I'm going to bring this back down to a civilized level and apologize. Anyways, I've played too, and in my experience, if you do it, expect it to happen to you. that's all. I guess that's why we disagree. Different values. I see, obviously, no shame in losing to that. And I see nothing wrong in using what's there to fight. Jersey-ing, to me, is acceptable. hitting a guy when he's down, or fighting a guy with prior physical problems... cheap shots - that's where these guys, and I, draw the line.

Stu is a class act. Intelligence and toughness combined and very well spoken. (No thanks on the religious brainwashing however)

You said all that just to take a shot your maker? Wow! I won't go on and on, but do you realize how many Biblical predictions came true? Too many to dismiss it even if you've had disappointments in life. Stu knows.

What a load of crap. I love the video of Grimson pounding the back of another guy's head who is going one-on-one with another player...as they lie on the ice! Where is that in the 'code'.

lol taking advantage? Langdon kept going behind him in that Whaler Ranger brawl. Stu then yanked Langdon's sweater over his head and popped him 3 times. Guy deserved it

No, he's right. Stu is being a hypocrite. He was one of the biggest goons in hockey and he went ballistic more often than most guys. Easy for him to talk a big story about "the code" after he retires though.
@SCROGY11 жыл бұрын
Don't blame the religion for someones flawed interpretation of it. I'm not religious per se, but if you commit murder in the name of Jesus you cannot claim to be a Christian. You are going against the tennents of that religion and are NOT a Christian. Just saying you are Christian does not make you Christian. You have to abide by the tennents of the religion (any religion) to claim to be a follower.
@SCROGY11 жыл бұрын
Although I don't agree with him about it being a cheap tactic. However Stu IS being a hypocrite here.
