The best example of the "code" or respect in an NHL fight is in this clip. When McCarthy doesn't take a shot at Grimson when he slipped and was on the ice. He allowed him to get up without taking a cheapshot at him.

Had Joe Kocur go in and talk to my pee wee team after we lost in 3 ots during the playoffs. The kids were upset and crying Joe went in talked to them and told them hold their heads high they played a great game but came up short it happens to every player at some point class guy all the way

People who don’t understand violent nature of hockey don’t have enough experience to criticize one of the greatest sports that has ever and continues to exist. Fighting is a no nonsense no bullshit way to keep everybody under control that’s why you have so many silly events happening in other sporting events

Notice the size of Grimson's hands......certainly wouldn't want to get hit by them, that's for sure!

While playing on the junior team in a small town in Toronto the very first game I lined up a guy came up next to me and told me He needed one I didn’t know what he was talking about I came back to the Bench the trainer came over and asked me what that guy said. Since I was playing mostly in the metropolitan area I didn’t understand what he was saying to me. The trainer explained it to me and told me you’re someone obligated to give it to him so I did

What separates hockey from other sports is the ability to intimidate in subtle AND not so subtle ways. It's why I loved Lucic when he was on the Bruins. He was percieved as a crybaby when actually if anyone even hit him or gave him any shit he went nuts and I think that is awesome. Saw him close and a guy was Fucking with him and he kept saying' Give me a Reason, Give me a Reason'''

100% I can't stand these pussies of today. Bettman messed up the league. No one fucked with Wayne or stevie y. They had protectors. Instigator rule ruined so much of that.

I remember when Grimson pulled Darren Langdons jersey over his head and continued to punch away on a player that was basically blind.

The "code".... dumbest word in sports, I don't mind a good fight but at least be mad at each other. These guys are here just for entertainment, not hockey. For instance, back in the day, if Daniel Sedin did something obviously dirty, would Grimson have pummeled him, probably not. It's just goon vs. goon. These players follow Don Cherry like sheep. I'm a huge hockey fan, been so since the middle sixties, glad it's out.

AMEN... Always has been that way... Tim Hunter is the only guy I've ever seen out of the tough guys who flat out says there is no code and refuses to peddle this bullshit
