Loved the aesthetic and use of the bauhaus horizontal and vertical lines and how they use foreground, middleground and background. There are a lot of concepts, story plot, characters and scenes that the matrix has borrowed from. I figured out the premise early but its interesting to see how its suggested in the way the characters act and how scenes are shot.

The way "Fred Stiller" is transmitted to the " upper" world of the simulators in the end is a hint that the upper world is simulated too...😎

How so? What are the hints?

@@R0CKDRIG0 Stiller is transmitted the same way like "Einstein" did, earlier in the movie, from the "other" simulated world...

Legendary Fassbinder film. Decades ahead from Matrix and the like. That cold, indifferent acting has a dreamlike quality, especially in the pool party scene...

Simulacrum-3 is based or inspired by Tunnel Under The World. In that short story, the protagonist and his buddy discover that they are actually tiny robots.

Great piece. Quite compelling and succinct. Hopefully this review (and this film) garners more attention someday.

There was another very notable simulation movie released in 99! Cronenbergs eXistenZ. Enjoyed the video, I'm, going to have to track this film down.

Actually since dark city was technically 98, I'd have to say the truman show somewhat fits the bill as well! Its not computerized, but if i remember right dark city wasn't either? Its been awhile since I saw that film.

didnt three simulation films come out that year. eXistenz, Thirteenth floor and the Matrix. Funny thing is.. I prefer those others to the latter and World on a Wire is better than all of them combined!

Great talk but I wish you did a full movie analysis. There is so much to unpack. So many puns, great music references and much more symbolism. The relationship between animate and inanimate objects. Projected ideals.Humour. Btw... Did Arny get his on Terminator from this film? In one scene Stiller robotically lifts a glass from a tray, without looking at it, almost robotically and at the end of the scene says ,quietly, "I'll be back". I could talk forever about this film...

It's always nice to see a 70's science fiction film with a happy ending... Most of the time it's a depressing ending, which to be honest I prefer, I think it's much more interesting. But it's still nice when things work out...

What an utterly fantastic and spot-on analysis... Am I the only one however, who sees the countless parallels with 2001: A Space Odyssey, down to the very endings of both films? ...except of course David is alone, despairingly enough....

I don't think so actually. What could be a greater ending? Not everything needs a dark ending.
