Xfinity is garbage, there's like 10 decent cars throughout the field and most of the good cars have mediocre drivers in it. The bottom 2 in the chase standings last year we're family run mid-pack organizations that miraculously made the chase because of a plate win, and because of Cassill being given shitmobiles every week since Kaulig outside of Allmendinger is complete garbage. Which is why you saw Terrible Herbst be gifted a Mickey Mouse top 10 points finish despite being the only guy in the chase not to score a playoff point last year. 2022 was a mediocre year for Xfinity.

I think a lot of Custer’s issues come from the 41 car’s lack of funding, combined with getting the worst equipment on a B tier team. He also had absolutely terrible luck last year. IMO, the issue with the 41 isn’t the driver, it’s the team.

Allmendinger only had one shot in top equipment and that was at Penske in 2012 where he ran really well. It goes beyond just driving talent. Yes that of course helps but going to CUP is alot of pressure, also the cars are different than the Xfinity cars.. that is a good thing in the sense that someone doing good in better equipment doesn't always translate in a higher series, making it more unpredictable but on the flip side, there is a learning curve. I feel like 3 years is enough though. The other thing to note beyond the pressure and learning curve is that you need to have the right team around a driver. I realize its not the old days of Crew chiefs making a huge difference especially with the big teams but it is still important. on another note, I'm glad Preece is getting this opportunity. he deserves it. I think that is a good move for SHR. Cole Custer can run in the lower series and race for wins, and he can remain around and get groomed by Tony Stewart and his father to take over the business when his father or Tony Stewart or Haas no longer want to run the team and Cole retires from racing. But with that being said, Custer still has a lot of racing left in him and I don't believe he is altogether done with Cup. I don’t see a problem with that though, and it could be great having Custer become a full time Xfinity driver for the rest of his career. Custer went from being considered the "future" of SHR 3 years ago when he was moving up to cup along with the rest of the Big 3, to being out of the cup series 3 seasons later, meanwhile Reddick and Bell scored 3 wins each the last two seasons, Custer only scored FIVE top tens in that same time-span.
