This is a subject that never ceases to fascinate me. Every vessel, every soul lost are meaningful and valuable. Just think sailor, you've been gone for a long time, and now people the world over are learning that you were here, and were lost at sea. And all these years later, we care...we remember you and your ship, and we care. We know you left wives and children and put out to sea...you were young, and old, experienced and new, brave souls. And some not so brave. Thank you for each and every video. I know every time that you put in the work and bring us the stories we love, with dedication and integrity. Thank you sir 🌹⚓

I was sitting here, both angered and horrified by the treatment of the shipwreck victims in this story- living and dead. But you made me think about the fact that we are here, remembering the victims all these years later. They weren’t just lost and forgotten.

I’ve listened to all your videos and there have been many examples of crew members with hearts as cold as ice but this might take the cake. Not only the crew of the Colima but also the captain of the San Juan. Crazy stuff! Thanks again for all your work!!!

Fortunately we do not often come across what seems to have been a company culture of callousness, seeing as both the Colima and the San Juan were under the Pacific Mail Steamship Company.

It’s amazing how many vessels have gone down on those waters that are “smooth as a millpond“….

Disgraceful and criminally inhumane behavior by the steamship company and those that capitulated to the covering up of negligent homicide. Sadly, but not surprisingly, this kind of behavior is still in evidence today. Thank you for relaying the facts of this tragedy

The newspapers even reached out to the union the engine crew belonged to for comment since none of the engine crew survived. The union refused to comment because they said it would prevent their members from finding work in the future if they did.

Unfortunately there was no actual requirement to render aid. If it was discovered that you hadn't the public would turn against you and your life would be much less pleasant but there were not any actual legal results.
