Oh my gosh, this could be an entire course but Emily gave it away for FREE! So generous, thank you so much for this video. This is the technique I've been looking for a while and so excited to try this. Now I wouldn't throw away my scraps. Brilliant.

I love that Kristina is asking all of the questions I wanted to ask. And very minimal verbal noise (such as "yup", "ya", "okay" which tends to interrupt and distract from the speaker). Excellent interviewer!

In the "old days", your term " fussy cutting" was called " broderie perse". I learned to do it in Primary Schhol and placed a big pink flower on an apronit was about 1958 and I am sure it has been around for a few yearsbefore that.

I learned 'broderie perse' also. wasn't born until the 60's

Yes, that cut-out-and-re-apply technique with whole flowers and other objects is centuries old. Collage with little strips and scraps is a new way of using the technique, and more complex. In addition to this artist, Laura Heine is a current master of the technique and is a pattern designer as well.

Take a photo of your color pile, edit it and change to "grey scale" or black and white, and you'll immediately see light medium dark.

I can understand why you love Klimt after watching this video. I suppose you could describe a lot of his more famous works as collages. He was inspired by Byzantine mosaics which are basically tile collages. What an interesting way to use fabric.

When do you arrange the background? I would guess first and then place the "applique"? A quilting follow up would be great! Thank you, I love this new HandiQuilter platform of teaching quilt skills.
@kristinawhitneyhqstudioedu70132 жыл бұрын
It would depend on the pattern. On my project, I did the background first but in certain spots, I added more background of the pot to help round it out a little. We will have the collage projects continuing for the next two weeks.
