Drug use is a symptom of a larger disease. Human beings should have the freedom to decide what substances they want to enter their body. Keep in mind alcohol is a literal poison but for some reason that's fine here, but actual beneficial substances like marijuana and psilocybin mushrooms have been demonized by our culture for so long. It's hypocritical and inherently fascist.

The leviathan of gov't is like an animal that will fight tooth & nail to survive. Think of how many people will lose jobs if we cut gov't bureaucracies. Sure, its nothing compared to the number of people in the private sector being impoverished & killed, but the gov't itself has all the management levers to fight back - taxes, military, legislation, courts, food stamps, etc...

agreed.. some time soon... These are some of the dumbest comments I have read thus far.. With the exception of a few.. no one seems to know what is really happening.. Just dumb.. The problem people with the whole inflation issue is greed and racism, disenfranchisement, discrimination, and with that, the economy is simply out of balance. And it's been unbalanced for the entire life of the American Government system. The entire system has been operating while leaving out a whole segment of society and community here in America. Who is the Black American community. The American dream was only for the white people., and has always been a nightmare for black America regarding all aspects of the economy. If you have a muscle car and drive it down the highway at 100 mph with a doughnut tire on the front passenger side for over 500 yrs., what do you think will happen to your motor and transmission?? That's right~!! It's going to break down and blow up.. All because it is out of balance. The only way out of this current economic situation is for ALL OF WHITE AMERICA TO DO RIGHT BY THE BLACK PEOPLE OF AMERICA. And if and when you begin to turn on and print more money., you should have it on your mind that when you print it.., put it where it belongs and will do the most good for the people of America and for America as a whole... Which = Reparations for the Black American Community.. to the exact tune of the current total U.S. debt, but double. One for the Banks and housing, and financial institutions, and the other for the BLACK AMERICAN COMMUNITY ONLY for payment of monies that should be in the economy but is not because of historic bias, racism, discrimination, and disenfranchisement etc.. After that, deal with the greed of these corporations that are robbing the people of America of all races for a decent stable life and livelihood.... And if you can't do that then the U.S. will Fall~!!! Period...

I heard a long time ago: The greatest fear of every capitalist is when society say: Our needs are met. The U.S. gov't is attempting the impossible - to stave off the economic collapse from '08 when the economy died. Instead of an orderly redistribution of capital into more efficient uses, we're still propping up incumbents who should have been allowed to fail. It would have been awful in '08. It should be a no-brainer. People tend to be more civil when they have a full belly, a safe and comfortable roof overhead, and the ability to envision a better future. Growing income inequality is THE issue, and a deeply systemic one. I realize that Americans think socialism is a dirty word, but you already have socialism - available only to billionaires and corporations. It's really not a radical idea to use taxpayer money to support services the taxpayers want and need. It's literally your money, and it Should be used for your benefit. I don't mean to throw stones from Canada here, but the further America gets from taking care of its own citizens, the more we see the same issues, and the same scapegoating, here in Canada.
@sarahjames505
@sarahjames505 12 күн бұрын
Socialism too many Americans means communism, it is a dirty word, Bernie Saunders was your best hope and Elizabeth Warren. The system suits the rich, with 45% of the wealth created since 2008 gone to the top 1%. The last thing they want is a social system, the Tories over here have brought the NHS to its knees, but that was the idea since 40% of the population now think it is ok to pay and go private. First objective achieved. The Tories hate spending money on the bottom tier, they got there by their own failures and our parasites on the hardworking middle classes. Democracy for the time being is over, since governments no longer actually have control, the markets do as Lizz Truss found out. But as Marx said capitalism wants most of all is cheap labour, slavery first, low paid sweat shops next, and once a country's labour gets too expensive, they move out, as with the USA, finding cheap labour elsewhere. Their wet dream is automation, no people required, imagine when robots can fix robots, AI creates all the programs, does accounts, law, advertising good bye even the middle classes. In the end capital will also arm itself to defend itself and hold governments to account.

I spent some time in Singapore in the late 1970's when Lee Kuan Yew was busily transforming the Nation into a financial powerhouse. One thing I remember is that there were lots of rules, censorship and an imposed ethic and morality. Lee had a vision for his country and ran it with a firm hand, and these are things that America and Americans would not abide. American's above all value their individual freedoms, which is both a blessing and a curse, since people's freedoms often rub up against each other the wrong way. By and large Asian populaces also appear to take a much longer view of life than does your average westerner. Sadly what works for the east is likely to never work for the west unless it can install a benevolent tyrant at the top, and these are very hard to come by...

Singapore is a very interesting case. Clean, safe, great education, efficient infrastructure. .. but also they are competitive to an extreme level within the education system (causing a lot of emotional problems), a complete obsession with money and status within the country, and a fairly souless environment. It's a tricky comparison because Singapore has the population of New Zealand, but living on a piece of land the size of a postage stamp which breeds an entirely different society and culture to other developed countries. The gap between rich and poor is stark, and they import a ton of cheap foreign labor just like the US. I was there recently and was shocked to learn the retail sales assistant helping me in a store had a full time nanny. Her husband also just works floor retail sales. They aren't wealthy but pay their Vietnemes nanny next to nothing. The tax rates aren't crazy BUT they do tax certain things very heavily- take cars as an example. It is CRAZY expensive to own a car in Singapore, so only the wealthy can. A $60k car to own and operate in the States would be $300k to own and operate in Singapore.

the gap between the rich and poor is not as stark as other countries. i would say it's better than most south east asian countries and even the US. even if you compare singapore with other developed countries, i don't think the wealth gap is that bad. you don't see groups of starving homeless people roaming the streets or many people committing crimes like muggings and robbery to survive. i'm not saying it's utopia, there are the rich and the poor. but the poor are better off than in most countries and abject poor is few and far between. yes, it's crazy expensive to own a car but i would say the upper middle class could own one and not necessarily just the elite wealthy. like you said singapore is size of a postage stamp and so the government limit the number of cars on the road. they do this issuing only a limited number of certificates for registration of new cars monthly. citizens have to bid for these limited certificates everytime they want to buy and register a new car. it is the demand and bidding war for these limited certificates which is the reason that drives up the cost. that is also one of the reasons why singapore place a lot emphasis in setting up one of the best public transport system. when the public transportation system is good enough, there is little reason for the people to want to own a car. let's face it, what is the point of owning a car? it's just to transport you from point A to point B. all other reasons are superfluous.

The government spends far more than it makes. It can borrow money to change the sex of minors without their parents' permission, have out of the roof spending on weapons that profits a small minority and foreign partners in crime, and serve interests like the overpriced pharmaceutical industry (I pay $200 per month for a required non-generic drug developed in 1928, it's less than $50 in Canada). One cannot help wondering how much Ray Dalio, who likes to point out "income inequality, was paying his lower level staff at his company while he was an executive at it. My bet is that he was, like so many corporate executives who receive an enormous yearly sum, paying many of his employees cost of living" raises which never quite covered the cost of living but always left them a little poorer.... One really does get sick and tired of hearing such people telling us all how things got to be as bad as they are--and never including themselves as part of the problem. "
