To this day The Collector is one of my favorite horror movies. It has everything that makes film a cult classic: smart and resourceful antihero protagonist, terrifying slasher, simple yet thrilling story, cool practical effects, blood and gore, memorable ending. Everything about it works just perfectly.

Some things didn't make sense, but you didn't have time to dwell on it because you were still so drawn into the movie. Many parts of the plot and tropes are predictable and very bland/generic. I feel like if the traps were more imaginative and realistic then it'd make up for it but otherwise I don't see how any horror fan would put this movie "up there".

I got a copy of this movie as well as the sequel signed by the lead actor, Josh Stewart, in a rather unique way. I was actually taught in school by his mom. My dad is a huge horror movie fan, so I asked Mrs. Stewart if she could get Josh to sign a copy of both movies for me to give as a gift to my dad. Love this review! One small detail - That wasn't The Collector screaming when the knife chandelier fell on him @ 17:15. That was the score to the film playing - an Armenian song that's all screams by Einsturzende Neubauten, you can hear the screams frequently throughout the film.

14:04 "He sends Not Newt down a chute into the basement" I honestly squirmed the moment you said that, because it's a chute and literally everywhere in this house has a trap on it, surely a chute would be a perfect trap... and yet, it's not? Someone trying to escape and quickly sliding down a confined slide, that's GOT to have some horrific torture device on it, like razors or just spikes at the end, something like that. But apparently no? I know that they don't want to kill the kid or the protagonist there, and they've run out of secondary characters to throw at things, so having a trap on that would be hard for them to get around. But what really annoys me is that apparently the protagonist himself doesn't even hesitate for a second, he doesn't even think to suspect that the very trappable chute might have a trap on it, not even testing it, and instantly chucking the child down there. I get that there's a lot of adreneline going and they're part of an ongoing chase, but it just feels cheap that there's such an obvious trappable part, the characters don't even consider it to be a trap, and then it's just not a trap, without explanation. It feels less lucky and more like the writers didn't think of it.

I love the fact that you guys finally did this movie!! I remember being young in my hometown seeing them filming this and was so excited! Him and chromeskull are honestly so underrated as slashers 😭
