The Collingwood Player Archive: Phil Carman 1975-1976

Phil Carman played for Collingwood from 1975 to 1978, appearing in 66 games and kicking 142 goals. This footage covers the 1975 and 1976 seasons. Phil won the Copeland Trophy in his first season, was leading goal kicker in 1975 and 1976 and vice captain in 1978. In his four seasons with Collingwood he made enough of an impact to be described as one of the most talented and exciting players to ever play for the club. @@richardpr23 Thank you, and that was a great show. My Saint Aunt had been taking me to Moorabbin for a couple of seasons by this time but didn't take me to this one and l look back now and suspect that it was still too soon after the Greening incident and she thought it was perhaps too dangerous for a seven-yr-old. Essendon hosted Carlton in 75 and conceded 14 in one quarter..l remember that that was on 7's Big League too and you just wonder if whole tapes of that and the White Boots match exist somewhere.

To people who think that Carman's suspension cost Collingwood the 1977 premiership, need to realise that Collingwood led by 27 points at 3 quarter time in the 1977 drawn Grand Final. The Collingwood players didn't quite finish off the job in that Grand Final. In most other Grand Finals a team would win the premiership in that position. Collingwood & its supporters should not blame Carman in 1977. Collingwood should have won the premiership even without Carman that year & they know it.
