Cellie found out that Mr. had been stealing and hiding letters from her sister, Nettie, for years. Cellie thought Nettie was dead. Nettie was the only person who cared about Cellie.

um, not sure if that last explanation was enough. Some context: Celie (the woman holding the razor), is married to "mister" (the man being shaved). he married her when she was only 15, and both he and his children, were abusive to her her entire life. her sister Nettie, was the only person during this period of her life that Celie ever truly felt loved by, and mister chased her away when she was a child and hid all the letters she was sending Celie all these years later. Celie found those letters, began reading them behind his back, and very quickly began to grow bitter with him for taking away the only things that could have made her relationship with him bearable. here, in this scene: Shug (her best friend and teacher of real love) is protecting her from making the worst decision of her life, killing him and losing any chance at real freedom.
