What really burns me is Miss Millie acts like she's doing Sophia a favor by letting her see her children.
@heathercontois4501 Жыл бұрын
The thing is, her husband wanted to hire Sophia (who had motherly instincts in strong order) because Millie has not been all there for quite some time. She literally has no clue about the stronger parts of reality going on around her.

Miss Millie wanted a mammy for her children. That’s why she commented on how clean the children are.

And let's not forget that Sophia was sentenced to 12 years in prison for striking Millie. After 8 years, Sophia was released on the condition that she serve the remainder of her sentence in Millie's servitude.

It doesn’t matter how many times I’ve seen The Color Purple or how many times I’ve seen this scene. When Celie takes the list and does the shopping for Sophia, I completely and totally break down into tears. It’s one of the most beautiful parts of this movie for me ❤

I remember when I watched this as a child, I thought Sofia’s eye injury was from the sheriff hitting her with his gun. I didn’t know that she was beaten in prison. I hate that her spirit was broken. She was always my favorite character.

Yes that scene has forever imprinted on my mind since I was a little kid seeing this movie.. Its funny, even though at the same time its a scene that is sad!! I think that's was the genius of Stephen Spielberg!! Miss Millie is a quirky goofy character and sort of useless, but it's showing just how little black folks had power over whites.. And she was a white woman of high status that she got into drama with that day at the gas station!!

Cuz he ass can't drive. That church scene pissed me off. She td her she could stay all day and then took it back when all they were tryna do was help her because he dumb ass can't drive worth a lick. That's why everybody gpt the hell out the way. Amd when Sofia try and reason with her to have someone take her home she claiming she don't know this person or that person. If you wanna take her away from her kids just say that shit. She was a whole ass Karen

I used to love this movie when I was younger now that I’m older/wiser I realized this movie was to program and DESTROY the black family. Think about it….BLACK men never acted this way during those times they protected and held the family together.
