And he respected Lee’s attitude towards his own work and others, Stan knew he was looking at the future with all these guys. I think he really did like Leifeld and McFarlane, but did not feel respect returned from them. Jim is and has always been such a nice and passionate creator and I’m so glad DC is in his hands.

Larry - I've been out of the game for some time now but for me, Jim Lee will ALWAYS be associated with the 90's and with X-Men and certainly Punisher War Journal. No offense to his Image or DC days, but just saying that in my mind he was pretty a great penciler before he got to DC.

Well you have to understand that while Superman IS iconic and his own unique character in his own right, Superman IS the base archetypical of all Superhero models so people will usually draw superman by default for a traditional superhero basis for a generic superhero character if they just wanted to draw in or make an example of one!

That's why he's one of the best artists in the history of comics. When the seven artists left Marvel in 1992 to form Image Comics, Jim Lee was easily the best artist out of the entire bunch. I can't remember who said it but I think it was Todd McFarlane, Rob Liefeld or Marc Silvestri who even admitted as much in an interview.

Not trying to burst your bubble cuz it could have double meanings for him (I'm aware it looks like a Malcolm X-type hat from the 90's) but at the time he was drawing X-men comics. They showcase this in Part 1 so I think that is the main (or another) meaning....

The x men series is a giant metaphor for the civil rights movement in the 60s so theres a lot of malcom x references in the series.

This VHS tape was made in 1992. Rob's and Todd's VHS tapes were made around 1991. Pre-image to early image time. According to SyFy's documentary on Image Comics, Rob and Todd were the rebels and the troublemakers whereas Jim was a saint. I imagine this may be the reason why Stan treats them a bit differently. I have to wonder about where the relationship between these two was when they filmed this. People commenting forget this was about the time Jim Lee has well has every top artist left Marvel to create Image Comics.
