The irony is DC has had lots of female writers, editors and artists over the last fifty years. The first to come to mind is Karen Burger (editor for The House of Mystery and later founder of Vertigo). there's also Coleen Duran, and Jill Thompson. Both were working in the industry since at least the early 90s.

Woman here who also volunteered at pet adoption agency, which yes, was run by other women. We made sure to know what about the people who were looking for pets, what they needed, and let them know about the past and problems of the animal they were interested in. If the pet they adopted didn't work out we made it clear to them that they bring the animal back to us to take care of it and not dump it elsewhere. I've also known people who have degrees in agricultural science/animal husbandry which was predominantly women. No man in the degree bitched about that or the fact female veterinarians are as common as male ones. Even most of the pet shops, privatley owned or chains, have many women working in them including as managers or even owners. There's also piss Poor research on comic continuity. Early in her series Harley had a whole floor in her apartment dedicated to numerous dogs and cats she adopted. Granted I've dropped the book long ago and maybe that was addressed in series but I wouldn't be surprised if like with pet rescue and actual legit critique on this industry, the writers could care less. The closing line was painfully stupid as well. Overly nostalgic fans (which can be women too) who might remember something better than what it was or want their hobby to do better are worst than say Charles Manson or idk that one Austrian guy and his followers everyone keeps comparing the people who don't agree with them with?

I want to get into the comic's industry as a writer, I'm female, but my want for stories aren't ever going to fly well. Cause when you want to write a story about how only you can let go of your own hate and so on, they wouldn't like that because they all WANT to hate. Want to feel outrage, and all of that so called righteous anger. I would start it out calmly enough, you know. Hate is okay when its against BAD people right? Then evolve it out from there, with the person falling deeper and deeper into everything to the point where hate consumes them. (using the allegory of the red lantern core for addiction! HUZZAH!) 7:45 This is basically an attack on Gamergate, wich was and still IS a movement about ethics in the videogame industry specifically, against the corruption among game journalist, who basically had the power over wich games would triumph and wich wont, with some of them even trading good rates in exchange for "You know what" Wich is basically what profesional vitim Zoe Quinn did to promote her game... The journalist then took the term Gamergate, wich someone used ironically on a tweet to pretend that there was a "Harassment movement against women in videogames" and that "White men want videogames to remain a boy's club" Wich is the narrative that, sadly, normies and of course the Social Justice Warriors who dont even play videogames believe to this day thanks to "Never played a videogame and victim expert" Aniita Sarkesian Even tho it's proven over and over that such narrative is a lie, by people like Basedmom (Factual Feminist) and videogame developers So basically we have been figthing against the negative stereotypes of gaming just so the game journalist turn their back on us, their core audience, to put new negative connotations in our existance Even tho videogames are the most egalitarian form of entertaiment that has existed so far... There's no wonder why gamers dont believe in journalist bullshit anymore, with sites like Polygon being top garbage as the same happens with the comic industry There's videogames even for 80 year old grandmas out there In fact some of the most important advances in videogames and even some really famous characters (Like Bayonetta) were made or designed *BY WOMEN* But because that's a flaw on their narrative, of course they are going to conveniently forget it just so they can control the opinion from people who wont do any research of their own

Much like X-Men Black, the writers' attempt at satirising the comicsgate movement is nothing more than pointing out things and calling it satire without adding anything to the discussion. Along with that, they even missed the point of the argument behind the rift between fans and comic comics and neglecting to call out the comic pro side for their absurdity. They take the words of the comicgaters and folks who just don't like the politics going on in the industry and slap them onto the pages without understanding the proper meaning behind them. Half of the time, they make the characters saying these statements as a mouthpiece and a straw man. If you're going to satirise what's going on currently in comics, try to give both sides a fair voice and put them under equal scrutiny. Present both parts of the arguments as equally valid.

About halfway through this video. I just want to say thank you for your great channel and all of your well-reasoned and well-argued criticism of these bizarre cultural trends happening in comics, movies, etc. I've always been a good Jewish liberal atheist progressive type from New York City my whole life, but lately find myself on the other side of arguments involving issues like these, forced to go on the defensive that I'm not a bad person just because I see flaws in things like these comics, or Captain Marvel, or Ghostbusters 2016, or what have you. It gets utterly exhausting. I'm an extremely opinionated pop culture fan! I have problems with TONS of things I check out! Art criticism has now become this extremely loaded field now, where if you have a problem with a comic with a social justice message like this, THAT MUST MEAN you are against the social justice message or any form of social justice at all. I just want to thank you both for doing such a good job of untangling these complicated ideas. Also, and this is just anecdotal, but my girlfriend has been a writer/artist in the comic book industry for the past 4 years or so, and she has had NOTHING but 1000% support from everybody, and nothing but tons of meteoric success (it's been quite astonishing for both of us), and she's...a girl! She has never been treated with anything but the utmost respect from both fans and peers (guys and girls) and other people in the industry and at all of the various companies, barring one or two awkward encounters here and there. The notion that it's not welcoming to women or there's some sort of barrier in place, etc...as far as I've seen, it couldn't be further from the truth. People have tripped over themselves fighting to get my girlfriend to work for their publication. Not to sound braggy...but it's true! I recommend a book called The Coddling of the American Mind. It goes into how mindsets (i.e. the aggressively social justice type) like the ones you criticize in your videos kind of set in to the culture and how it permeates through all of these things. It's really fascinating, and in a very non-judgmental kind of way.

That's kind of the thing with Marvel and DC. When one is doing poorly, the other suddenly hits a mini golden age. In 2016 and 2017 was DC's time with Rebirth, and Marvel losing the faith of the fans with Secret Empire. And now is DC losing the faith of the fans with Heroes in Crisis and such, and Marvel getting it back with The Immortal Hulk or the X-Men Red run. It's kind of periodical. If you see one doing poorly, you can rest assure that the other is doing something great right now. PD: By the way, if you want to read well written political allegory, try Tom Taylor in X-Men Red. The guy is really good at his craft.

The art might be good, but the story and the dialogue are prime examples, of what to AVOID when being an up and coming writer. The message is as visible as a burning lighthouse, the dialogue quite literally beats you over the head and contradicts itself in some cases with that one lady who was bursting through the window, and the comic had no reason to exist other then just to cash in on the politics game Either way, great video. You guys are fair in your criticisms, however I do have a hard time trying to figure out who’s who when it comes to voices. Not sure if it’s just one who does all the talking, but eh. Love your videos either way, and keep up the good work

Noisy Boi the artist isn’t always the writer, imagine being forced to draw out the visuals because it’s your job despite disagreeing with this shit

Brainbot Jezebel I don’t think I ever mentioned the artist being the writer...?

Wow! So glad that I don't read comics from the mainstream. Mine are independent and gay porn orientated.

If this is how bad American comics are getting, I'll be sticking to injustice comics, manga, and comics that had an adoption that I've seen.

It's sad that marvel and dc comics have become like this. Is there a possibility it can be fixed? Yes absolutely! Do you have to read the newer issues? No you don't, you can read the old comics. And while marvel and dc are going through a slop. Manga is doing strong and there's plenty of opportunities for original comics to be made.

This comic is horrible. Waste of money and straight filler. But for real your looking at this way to personal due to your work at the shelter. It’s just a comic book with lame comedy satire. This is why ppl should buy from independent artists and authors . Stories are way better depending on Your genre. #supportidenyartists

Holy ¤%&¤# is this real?!?! The level of ignorance is ... I don't even know what... 7:13 The "It's about ethics in the pet industry" phrase is probably an attempt to mirror the "It's about ethics in gaming-journalism" phrase from gamergate. And, of course, it gets the strawman treatment, because, why not? Yeah, sure, gamergate was exclusively an angry pitch-fork mob... *roleseyes*.

I think you have more understanding on the art of storytelling than the „professional“ creators, both in comicbooks and Hollywood.

Thank you for helping me avoid this trash issue, just when I can finally see a light of hope within the 2nd wave of the Diddio era of DC we get more inaccurate ridicule From pros, I hope I'm wrong, but it looks like it's gonna be another rough year of the same crap, from the Comic book industry.

its funny, cause the people this comic would actually appeal too... they don't read comics! You'd think this industry would want to cater to the fans who made them as big as they are today. It's the least they could do, but who knows. The pendulum has to swing the other way eventually.

I think the book does more to satirize the side it supposedly champions than its actual opposition.
