@@madelineharrop One of the most upsetting thing a woman can experience is to be a victim of a crime and for law enforcement to decide she is "hysterical, unstable or unbalanced". In too many jurisdictions detectives given the responsibility of investigating crimes against women include an "old boys network" type of mentality. As long as a man - any man - offers up a suggestion that the complaining witness is unstable or should not be believed, that is just enough "evidence" for her to be totally disregarded. I am sorry that you feel unheard, Madeline, and that you are continuing to suffer the torment. As you can attest, and as Cindy James experienced, women are still too often dismissed as victims of crime. Maybe once we start to get more female detectives in a position of investigative power, then things can improve. Stay safe, Madeline!

My mother was a victim of stalking. She was not believed. It wasn’t until she ran into a childhood friend who was a cop and told him what was happening that she was finally believed and they arrested the man. My grandmother told her to “stop causing problems”. It’s horrible.

If she had multiple personalities, other people would notice, especially since she was hospitalized multiple times. Also, people with DID, presuming that was what was intended, do so to protect themselves. It's a self-preservation thing, so she wouldn't be tormenting herself. That makes no sense. And yes, it is absolutely maddening to not be believed when you are being abused. That kind of psychological torture needs to be made illegal if it can be proven. Many can prove it, and the victim is told to make changes even when it's not possible.

@@brijefferson1498 this actually was a reddit post and he didn't have multiple personality disorder. The guy was suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning. Someone on the reddit thread suggested that the guy tested his house and sure enough that was the reason. You can find this easily.

Also the correct term for "multiple personality disorder" is DID (dissociative identity disorder) and is most often formed through childhood trauma that manifests as seperate "identities" that basically work to protect the individual, so it's highly unlikely that someone with DID would be secretly tormenting themselves... it really just sounds like ableism + victim blaming

Sadly they can’t because the law didn’t count stalking as a crime until very recently. Unless the man was showing up directly and she knew who it was, they couldn’t do anything about it. I was stalked from 16-19 and didn’t know who it was, luckily an officer went behind his job and got a private detective to find who my stalker was. Stalking laws are still not taken seriously, not because of police but because of the courts

The police claimed she staged all of the attacks for attention. To prove their claims, the police had someone at the coronal inquest placing a nylon around his neck and hog tying himself to demonstrate how Cindy may have done it in three minutes. They claimed she took oral narcotics (pills), which would have had a delayed effect and she would have had time to tie herself up before passing out. That doesn't explain the injection mark on her arm (although she could have injected herself with saline to fake it). The police account sounds very far fetched to me, which is probably why the result of the coronal inquest was that the manner of death was still unknown.

That being said I’m also not familiar with any psychiatrist just injecting their patients, especially not with morphine. Not really. I watched multiple true crime stories covering Cindy's suspicious death and listened to various podcasts. I also listened to one of the recorded messages and it's quite clear that whoever rang Cindy was a female trying to disguise her voice. It's very convenient that she never remembered anything, so she couldn't be caught in a lie while answering the questions. Also, whoever was allegedly stalking her was smart enough to avoid police surveillance, but tried to attack when she was staying with her friends?? And was conveniently waiting on the side walk to be seen? On that note - the police concluded that the fire started from inside of the house because everything was locked and there was no sign of a force entry. Plus, it had been reported that Cindy's stalker story didn't start when she divorced her husband, she was paranoid for years prior, talking about incidents that never took place.
