I agree with the point about the record being self titled but not involving the multiple facets of Rosé. I understand that this relationship was the main focus and that she wanted it to be relatable (as she has stated in interviews), however as you said, the concept started to become a *little* tired after a few songs. I would've liked to hear more songs maybe like 'number one girl' wherein she gets more introspective. But I will admit that might be me being nitpicky lol. Let me also plug my top 5 since I'm here not the same 3am drinks or coffee toxic till the end number one girl

such a great introspection! as a young adult myself, the bookshelf metaphor was amazing. as a big fan of bp and a rosé bias, i was definitely very satisfied with this record. i just have to admit, though, the mourning of a relationship felt a bit repetitive throughout the whole album. it was branded as super personal, and while i do agree that those experiences mean a lot to her, i wish she had explored different themes on the album. i find ‘vampirehollie’ and ‘no 1 girl’ to be really interesting lyrically since those two songs leave more room for interpretation by the listener. i do appreciate the rather complex and metaphorical songwriting in ‘too bad for us,’ though, and love love love that rosé participated in wrapping up this whole record. this is just a debut album, and she will definitely get better over time. i think it’s a good start for someone still finding their footing. in the future, i just hope she can disconnect herself from the tswift sad girl archetype. rosé is a really interesting and one-of-a-kind person-I don’t want her to think that some stupid boy defines her.

This album is one of those things that feels so natural for her. Ever since 'Gone,' I knew she would be going away from the kpop structure. As for comparisons to western artists, I actually think this album feels significantly more 2013-2016 than anything else. Albums that come to mind are 1989 (kind of obvious), Blonde, Badlands, and 25. These artists were all growing into themselves and finding out who they were.

I like this type of songs. 2. 2 years. she can't move on, ahh Rose, a sad song. 3. toxic till the end. the song slays. the bridge. the verse. broo. fire. 4. drinks or coffee. song about finding someone pretty at a bad party. relatable and exciting experience. 5. stay a little longer. I love ballads from Rose. I can't put into words why I like this song clearly. it is just story telling is done amazingly here.

also, can we appreciate how amazing of an ending ‘dance all night’ is? i think songs like ‘not the same’ and especially ‘dance all night’ lean more into the ‘i’m over it’ themes, and i wish she explored those more-particularly in the more mellow, second half of the album. i also really loved the r&b execution, especially on ‘drinks or coffee.’ she needs to tap into this sound more in the future… this, plus the pop-punk approaches in ‘apt.,’ may become her branding for a while.
@truenoae8689Ай бұрын
I liked dance all night because it wasn't like a "I'm fully healed and moved on" vibe it was more like "I'm still hurting and messed up but let's make the most of it". Because you can tell by the end of the album she doesn't have it all figured out still, and to pretend now everything is fine and happy ending wouldn't feel genuine. But it's an optimistic look at trying to move on and smile in spite of heartbreak.

This review feels very comforting because I feel the exact same way as a long-time Rosé biased Blackpink fan. I cherish this album so much and feel so proud to be her fan. Taking her time for a year to pour everything she has into this album while coming up with a full-fledged promotion plan for it. It’s crazy to see how well everything is going for her, she deserves all this so so much. Can’t wait to watch all of the girls journeys as solo artists.

I don't think rosé was really trying to build a cohesive, consecutive narrative with the tracks - it's really just her talking about her feelings and figuring them out, with the listener as someone to confide. Either way, it still manages to work out from a narrative sense :>

I love this album! I keep listening to toxic till the end. It’s emotional and a bit raw, it shows her strengths while still maintaining a song that is so beautiful and catchy that will stay in your head forever. If you’re feeling depressed I feel like it’s a song that is definitely a good song to listen to. I’ve been a blackpink fan for 5 years so I’m super happy we’re getting an album from rosé. My favorites are drinks or coffee, gameboy, and dance all night - as you might be able to tell, i prefer the faster paced songs lol. drinks or coffee reminds me sooo of sabrina and ariana, especially with the delivery on the first two lines of the chorus. gameboy feels super reminiscent of 2017-2021 halsey to me. dance all night is just a nice song. it feels honest, tired but relieved, and somewhat bittersweet. it feels like the ending credits to a movie with an unexpected but fitting ending. it's a good album, it's exactly what it needed to be and i'm just so happy that rosé is expressing herself as the singer-songwriter we always knew she was.

I think it's named rosie because as she said it herself, the album is like a collection of her monologues in the past couple years, so it's her own vulnerable and complicated experiences that have perhaps shaped her in becoming the rosie she is today.

Falling in and out of love doesn't only affect young adults. Breaking up with a partner is commonly messy and painful no matter your age. The album reflects the process of healing, understanding and finally acceptance that it is now time to move on with her life. It's a well crafted statement by an inspiring young lady.

I feel like the album title is also a play on viewing a relationship through rose colored glasses to put off the inevitable. Which also might tie into how she views herself ignoring red flags as part of the problem in the relationship. She is Rosie and she saw things as “Rosy” until she had distance from it. It’s a thought, anyway

I think what was throwing me off is the fact that until literally yesterday we didn’t even know Rosé was in a relationship. And of course she’s been in relationships😭 but I was definitely like ‘ok why is your entire debut about this relationship that no one even knows about’. But I definitely get it now and what you said about the relationship being a defining and pivotal moment for Rosé makes a lot of sense. I also wondered why the end of the album is so ‘repetitive’. A lot of people said it’s the same song again and again. But I think they’re all very different and they do capture the messiness in a sense, that is typical in the heat of the moment. I just can’t figure out if that was intentional but I’m willing to give Rosé the benefit of the doubt because HELLO- SHE HAS A GENIUS MIND. I love a lot of the songs while some are just simply not my thing. Like this album is full of 10/10 songs that will probably age as well as Gone - a classic in my eyes. Whenever I thought about a Rosé debut I always expected something adjacent to Olivia Rodrigo. And if we got really fun then maybe Chappell Roan. So I definitely do see the album sitting there with Sour and some of Taylor’s pop classics. My only real criticism of this album is again the fact that it’s solely about a relationship, that no one’s ever heard of before. On The Ground was a song about her relationship with herself, and I wish we got at least one song that was about her career and fame - or anything more fascinating than a relationship😭. I did feel a disconnect because of this but the more I think about it I feel like it’s really just a transitional phase where Rosé the idol is becoming Rosé the person, the person who was in a toxic relationship, the person who makes mistakes, the person who can be impulsive and messy. I think the disconnect is really just the beginning of a deeper connection to Rosie the person. Like it all makes sense to be honest😭. I just wish there was something more, and so I’m looking forward to the sophomore album. Edit: On a very unserious note it also doesn’t help that I thought Rosé was fruity so now I’m just like ok then🤡
@nameisamineАй бұрын
I’m trying to grade the album on a curve because it’s definitely an accomplishment for _HER,_ given where she’s come from in Blackpink. Rosé daring to explore her personal life is something I know Kpop idols are encouraged NOT to do, so kudos for that! However, it was more of a baby step forward than a bold leap. ‘Rosie’, the album, while more honest and authentic compared to Blackpink’s music, still feels derivative and contrived in comparison to her coming-of-age albums by her western counterparts. I could never place ‘Rosé’s ‘Rosie’ above Rodrigo’s ‘Sour’, Avril Lavinge’s ‘Let Go’, or Alanis Morrisette’s ‘Jagged Little Pill’, it doesn’t come close. Rosé is definitely reaching for something raw, but she’s still not going all the way. She’s still holding back. It’s an attempt to appear carefree, uninhibited, and varnished whilst still being very varnished imo. The attempt to bear her soul felt half-hearted she can go further exploring her traumas, deeper into her introspection, she could’ve far more candid in her lyrics, she’s still self-editing and holding back. This album doesn’t make a bold enough statement for me in that respect but the songs are pleasant enough. 6.5/10
@truenoae8689Ай бұрын
I know what you mean and her interviews are also like that. She's very genuine and honest and doesn't put on the usual perfect kpop act, more open than most idols, but at the same time there's definitely a line she won't cross in terms of rawnees and openness. It feels like a defensive mechanism for how brutal the standards in kpop are and how vicious the fans can be. For example she almost panicked and wanted to delete APT because she thought people might think it's bad she's singing about a drinking game. Also while admitting you've been in relationships is relatively uncommon for idols, when an interviewer asked "how do kpop idols date" she just said no comment. So yeah while I feel she's being honest and open to a degree, there are still things she won't show yet. And that comes across in the music as well as her publicly.

there is no linear way to come of age. so, the relationships you experience tend to define those times because it’s one of the only instances where you can freely exercise all of the emotions you’re feeling and further use those emotions/experiences to grow. however, there’s so much more to growing up than that (which audiences can still relate to if told correctly). i guess i’m a bit selfish for wishing that rosé could’ve explored more of what that entailed beyond the toxicity narrative of a romantic relationship… since she has lived through so much - more than what we are aware of - unique perspectives could’ve been introduced and called for us as the audience to do some serious introspective work as a result. it’s not even so much how this album is presented sonically that i’m disappointed in, it’s the narrative. it just feels so one note (to me, personally)

For a debut album, I think it’s an okay project. However, I can’t help but feel a bit let down by Rosé’s decision to take such a safe route by going with the sad girl pop genre, which has been done countless times in recent years. While I understand she takes inspiration from Taylor Swift, it would’ve been nice to see her inject more of a unique artistry into the album, as we’ve seen other rising pop stars do. Take Olivia Rodrigo, for instance-she’s a major figure in the sad girl pop space but consistently delivers stunning bridges and deeply well-written lyrics. Rose’s songs felt so bare, like I imagine what millenial gray would feel like in song form . Other Pop stars like Taylor swift has amazing writing skills, Billlie Eilish’s work stands out with its innovative production, Sabrina Carpenter brings her witty humor to her storytelling, Olivia Rodrigo with her emotional vocals. Unfortunately, Rosé’s album lacked those standout qualities. Her songwriting felt weak. Her lyrics were pretty bad throughout the whole album, cringy at times. It was less noticeable in Apt because it’s an upbeat song but with the minimalist production of the other songs, it could not be hidden and yes, the production was flat, leaving the album feeling uninspired and plain. I was hoping for more-more personality, more creativity, more of her. Instead, all we got were vague hints about her ex and nothing that truly showcased what makes her distinct. It felt like a missed opportunity for her to carve out her own niche in the pop landscape.

I wish more people get to hear vampirehollie. I think number one girl, vampirehollie (and maybe the deluxe version of this album in the future with more songs) show more sides of ‘Rosie’ beyond that toxic relationship, sides that are still vulnerable but also more about her struggles as an idol. I know for some people, the topic of love and relationships may seem repetitive and can get tiring in the music but I think this album holds its own impact in the position that Rosé, different from the other pop girls you can think of, is a K-Pop idol. In the K-Pop world where idols (not k-indies or hip hop) being vulnerable and honest about their personal stories and love life seems like a forbidden topic to share, where most love songs from the idols gets avoided being discussed by the artists or hidden under the naive reason “this is about the fans”, ‘Rosie’ as an album coming from a mainstream K-pop idol of one of the biggest K-pop group through my position/side/perspective as a K-pop fan is something fresh that I enjoy and hope to see more. For western music fans, this may seem nothing new, but put into the context of her being from Kpop and is considered a K-pop idol, Rosie is really pushing some boundaries in the worlds of between K-pop and Pop, between the definition of idol and artist. My current top 5 1. Too bad for us 2. Drinks or coffee 3. Two years 4. APT. 5. Number one girl Honorable mention: vampirehollie

I really loved the album overall, I feel like she showcase her ability to write songs and being vulnerable from her own perspective and musically it feels so good and comfy to listen to... I have seen some people criticize the album for being too mellow and "boring, formulaic and safe" production, also saying that APT was out of place... I don't agree entirely cause even though the music production is safe and not pushing boundaries necessarily,I still enjoy it a lot, however, I do wish that she had added more songs with similar energy/vibe to APT, the closest thing is drinks or coffee and it is not even that close, cause at times it felt a bit of "one tone" album... I don't see any other singles blowing up in the same way APT did unfortunately which would have shut up the haters saying APT just did well because of Bruno... Yes Bruno did help but even without him the song is very catchy... my favs are stay a little longer, 3am, toxic till the end, drinks or coffee, not the same

first of all, all fellow blinks who made this far we deserve a group hug. 🫂. my opinion about this album: solid debut album, good job Chaeyeon. From opener like number one girl, that sets up the mood for the album, to lead single toxic till the end that hits hard, and drinks or coffee that taps to a genre that neither blackpink nor Rose herself never explored before, and APT. which is already a huge hit that leads to second half of the album that contains songs with more raw and emotional songs and closer, dance all night that Rose settles down with everything that has happened along the way, listening experience is pleasant and tracks follow each other seamlessly. I personally listening to the entire album at least 2 times a day ( during weekdays). For her next album I want her to either explore other genres of music or focus more on stories that she wants to tell, but one thing for sure pick one thing and commit to it fully. From how you described you seem like so excited about the album 😀, as we all should.
