Ferries and intercity boats SHOULD be separate in my opinion. It makes no sense to have cruise ships ferrying commuters back and forth across a river
@mamuf Жыл бұрын
That should be down to the boat selection... which is not there yet. But you can already select the CO bus instead of the standard one if you have it unclocked. So I assume we'll get more variety in buses, trams, airplanes and of course boats to choose from for different kind of routes.

The fact that cruise ships can be used as ferries also provides possibilities. Now water transport can replace trains in more island like maps. But of course ferries would need a seperate system.

Transport is one of the most disappointing aspects of the game for me. There is nothing new vs CS1 when it comes to transport options. No modular train/metro stations, no metro interchanges, no ability to change depth of metro stations, I guess we do have overground metro, but the overground station is hideous, and there's no elevated options. Also surprised that we can't choose which lane to put the tram tracks and bus lanes in, since that was something you could do way back in CIM2. The bus station and train station also have loads of parking so will look out of place in a city centre, so it really seems like they're pushing you to build Us style car centric cities, and ignoring their EU theme. Surprising for a company whose early games were entirely about public transport

any tips on using all the transport options together to maximize efficiency of changing transport methods? And do you have any recommendations on spacing them out? Like is it better to have bus stops closer to each other as opposed to say trams where you space them out further, metros where you space them even further, trains...ect?
@CitiesByDiana Жыл бұрын
Yes! The ideal transit hierarchy is stuff like train, harbor and airport > metro > tram > bus > taxi each serving smaller areas and collecting passengers to the stops of the higher capacity methods above it bus is definitely great for like....secondary routes and collecting passengers from local neighborhoods while metro and tram are good for larger routes and train/harbor good for connecting larger regions together within a city.
@boomerix Жыл бұрын
As someone who loves public transit IRL and loves games such as City Skylines, Transport Fever etc. Here a relatively short overview: Train > Connects outside world with your map, best used for regional travel (long distances) to outlying rural towns as well as areas which require high capacity (airports, harbours, city centres). Metro/Subway > underground station makes it convenient for travel within city centre, can also connect to areas requiring high capacity like airports, harbours city centres, railway station. Can be used for regional lines as well making above ground sections (to save money). The disctinctions between Metros and Trains are blurry, but you want Trains to serve longer distances then the Metro, going out into the the "countryside" while the Metro mainly serves the high density areas and maybe some suburbs around them. In both cases avoid stations too close (especially since they take up a lot of space). Keep them about 4-10 blocks apart. Bus > Use it to collect people from neighbourhoods. If you have a Rail station in the middle of a spread out rural town, you can put a Bus Hub next to it and have lines bring people from the neighbourhoods there where they can get on the train or transfer to another Bus route. You can also use Buses to connect to small settlements that are too small to justify their own Rail connection. Buses should always connect to other Bus routes, Tram stops, Railway Stations and Metro stations. In the city centre they can be used to create a "web" that fills out the gabs of the larger services. Bus stops should by max. about every 2 blocks. You never want a citizen to have to walk more then 500 meters to the next Bus stop. Tram > Instead of looking at it as a small train, look at it as a large Bus. Use it for routes requiring high capacity, mainly in your dense neighbourhoods. It is also a great option to connect the city centre to nearby suburbs. They can also be Metro extensions, picking up passengers from the Metro to destinations they want to go to which either don't justify another station, or is out of the way of the Metro line. I recommend to check real life examples of cities that do Public Transport well. For Trams+Metros+Buses look at the Public Transit maps for Budapest. (futar.bkk.hu/) (bkk.hu/en/timetables-trip-planner/maps/) For Trains + Trams check out Stuttgart,München or Berlin. For Just Metro/Subway check out London and Moscow. Prague and Vienna are also Cities to take inspiration from.

Nice video, there are some valuable infos in it. I like how you followed the road for underground metro lines. I do have some remarks though(regarding my experience in Skylines 2 ofc. ^_^): Buses - I had a train station in one of my cities and I built a transport hub around it, with buses and trams. The traffic wasn't so much of a problem as constant exchange of buses going in and out of service. Seriously, one of the lines was suffering with lack of buses just because I had constant exchange of them going in and out of service. Adding more capacity to the depo or making another one didn't help. Trains - passenger trains were ok(ish) but the cargo trains kept going to the edge of the map and back without carrying any cargo. I had plenty to export and import in my cargo hubs, but nothing was moving. It's like the cargo hub was used a sort of a warehouse for trucks to exchange goods :/ For metros, I don't have a city large enough for metros to be financially viable. For Trams, I like them the most and they don't seem realistic to me yet. I like detailing the roundabouts and separate them from the rest of the traffic, and after I ONCE tried to make a pedestrian street go under a road, I realised how the process isn't worth the effort. Pedestrian and bike networks have been either neglected or they don't exist in the game, but are highly viable methods of "transport". In my cities in Skylines 1, I have barely any traffic issues as everything is being handled by either an efficient public/cargo transport, bike or pedestrian network. With Skylines 2 these 2 methods are being completely ignored. I hope they bring them in one of the future updates. Conclusion: I parked Skylines 2 and I'm enjoying my old city in Skylines 1. At least until the game has more content. I don't know if some of these issues have been addressed, but I hope CO brings the game into a decent shape soon. Sorry for the long post.

In the first Cities Skylines, trams were the best transportation. Large capacity, complete absence of noise, sharp turns, short trains, compact stations, tracks both isolated and on car streets. All the best from the bus and train. The main thing is to always keep them on separate paths from the street, otherwise traffic jams are guaranteed. But the gaps between houses on the inside of 2u are great. In the second part, I will also use them as the main transport. I find tunnels a great relief, so the metro is of little use to me, and the train stations are too big.

Thanks for a great intro video on public transit. I have more questions and are exploring and trialing myself, but if theres already definitive answers, it would help lots, eg - since routes have to be a loop, is it worthwhile building a reverse line to cater to citizen for their return trips? - should i build a crosswalk for bus stops that is only on one side of a large road (and theres no intersections nearby) or will citizens still cross the road?l to catch a bus? - what is the optimal distance to build stops, does density of buildings affect this or will citizens still walk the same distance? - similarly, how far will citizens consider for transiting? - what is the optimal approach to cargo? A line that starts in industry to main commerical streets then return back as a loop? Should it stop in any residential areas? - i have 4 train stations built at the moment and i have created a loop linking all four, but i get very low usage (2%) and i have connected local bus lines back to a stop in front of the respective train stations but it doesnt seem to increase the usage...any thoughts if this is the right qpproach?

I don't get how taxies are considered "public transit", when for the most part it's just you (and your family/friends) plus the driver in that car, and the taxi doesn't make intermediate stops to pick up/drop off extra passengers. I mean, it does make intermediate stops when the driver is technically "hired/employed" by the passenger to do so. (maybe to pick someone/something else up along the way, or if the passenger wants to make a quick stop to a "sub-destination")
@CitiesByDiana Жыл бұрын
I don't really either but the game calls them public transit so I'm going with what the game says
@wlstrond Жыл бұрын
I don't quite agree with that definition either, but I understand why. Taxis are considered public transport mainly because, besides being considered individual transport, they also carry a significant number of people throughout the day. This is different from individual vehicles that usually only transport 1 or 2 people most of the time.
@regulate.artificer_g23.mdctlsk Жыл бұрын
@@wlstrond So that makes Uber and the like "public transit" too, but admittedly I haven't seen people argue that or call them as such. IMO, something like a minibus/utility van or the Philippine jeepney would be the minimum of what could be considered public transit.

It is public in as much as you, personally, don't have to own a car in order to use it. @@CitiesByDiana Thanks I wondered what your PC or laptop specs are and what running it issues you are having? I have seen 2 other youtubers highlighting these issues. Laurie. NZ.

Report that a Desktop 3070 is running at 25fps at 1080p on high settings, this is insane.. They update the recommend settings to a RTX 3080 lol@@CitiesByDiana

I have a 3070 too and 5800X.. to reach 60fps you need to put everything on low. Maybe drivers update or a day one update of the game, will make this better. Hopes @@ncshaw7772

@@fernandexaol There are some unnecessary graphics settings, if you turn itt off - for example Motion Blur - you can give more fps. (In my vision, 60 fps is enough for a city building game, don't necessary more, contrary an fps or a racing game.)
