Funny you put this episode out. For the past 2 weeks we were at Disney’s Fort Wilderness. My niece lives only 15 minutes from Disney as a passholder and we were taking about Maelstrom as we were standing in line for Frozen. She never heard of it as it was, all she knew this ride Frozen. I was telling her about what the ride use to be. Now i’ll share this with her as this will explain it all. Thank for another great Disney history lesson!

It's so awesome that you got to spend so much time at Fort Wilderness!!! And I can't believe your niece never heard of Maelstrom, what with living so close to the parks. I hope she watches and enjoys the episode. And I'm glad you enjoyed it too! It's always great to hear your feedback.

@@disfarers well she is young and she must of never spent that much time at epcot, since its really more adult oriented, unlike the rest of the parks. So i’m guessing she just walked by never realizing there was ride there.

My memory is a bit fuzzy on the original ride but I enjoy Frozen re work. Once again great video. Can I request you do more extinct attractions? Captain Eo perhaps ?
@disfarers4 ай бұрын
You blew my mind with your Captain Eo idea! That's fantastic! I will absolutely put that on my list. It's going to take me some time to get to it, but wow, I had never thought of that. I could tie in George Lucas and Disney in there too. I like Frozen Ever After a lot too. It's a solid attraction. And I do plan on making more extinct attraction episodes but I really have to space them out. The editing for extinct attractions is really tough because I'm relying on what's out there that already exists, whereas in my typical episodes I can just go out and shoot exactly what I want. I hope I'm making sense boiling it down like that, but a 30 minute episode like Maelstrom took over triple the time to make that a typical 30 minute episode. So for production reasons, I have to space them out. Again though, thanks so much for the Eo idea! And thanks so much for watching and commenting!

The maelstrom was my favorite synth in Reason 3.5

I'm not sure if this has something to do with music, but I can see that something about Maelstrom is your favorite and it's one of my favorites too. So hey, we have something in common!

Since dinosaur is closing soon, can you please do a video on that ride?
@disfarers4 ай бұрын
It's a great idea and I planned to do it in the future, but there's already a long list of episodes I already have in production. Thanks so much for watching and the suggestion though! I really appreciate it.

Maelstrom was my favorite Epcot ride! Luckily they did a good job changing it to Fe-Maelstrom, er, “Frozen”…… So I still enjoy the ride…. And all the female cast members are good looking for some reason 🤔

From what i can gather, Kjell E. Midthun painted the queue mural. I cannot find much information connecting the two, but i was able to dig that tidbit up. Would love to know if you find anything further!
@disfarers4 ай бұрын
Do you happen to have a link about Kjell and the mural tidbit? He's a fantastic artist, but I can't find anything linking him to Maelstrom. He would have only been 19 or 20 years old at the time of the attraction's construction, which would have been amazing. So interesting! Thanks so much for sharing this and for watching too!

@@disfarers i cheated and asked chatGPT. It didn't link a source, and i also tried to dig where it may have came from to no avail. I was able to comb through some of his artwork though which did seem to be in line with the style of the mural, more or less. And ive seen a zillion maelstrom videos, but this one was captivating. The history about the shortening of the ride and the incorporation was so enlightening. I do think maybe chatgpt was off wit this one, cause i cannot find a single thing beyond that answer. And, as i dig further, he seems to really be more in line with drawing the trolls/gnomes side of norwegian folklore rather than the scene in the mural. The mystery continues!
@disfarers4 ай бұрын
I agree about the likelihood of Kjell after looking further into it and getting nothing, but it was exciting for me for awhile there. And it's still a possibility. Thanks so much for compliment on the episode by the way. I really appreciate it. I watched every Maelstrom video on youTube before getting to work just to be certain I would be bringing new information to the topic. But yeah, as for the muralist, you're right, the search continues.
