Yeah, I wish there was more information about what the discussions were behind the scenes. From the imagineers I've had brief interactions with, it's not as though they're not happy to reveal anything and everything. The issue is that they seem to think no one interested in what they have to say. Thanks so much for watching again! And for commenting too!

Nice piece. FYI… Ollie’s wife was Marie. Not Mary. They are pronounced differently. Also, the name Chouinard, as in the Chouinard Art Institute, is typically pronounced "shoo-NARD" (rhyming with "card"). It can also be pronounced "shwee-NARD", particularly if leaning toward a more French-influenced pronunciation. Both "shoo-NARD" and "shwee-NARD" are commonly accepted, though the former is often used in an American context.

NO GOVERNORS!?!?!?!?
@flipflopsguy886818 күн бұрын
Born in 1960 Los Angeles, I was taken to the Merry Go Round in Griffith Park, Beverly Park/Kiddieland and Knott's Berry Farm, and Knott's was the first amusement park with Gasoline Powered cars on a enclosed track, They were in the style of a "Model T" and made of metal, you could get on the gas to a point and then the governor would kick in and bog down, you'd go around a I'm imagining a dirt course enclosure with metal railings on both sides, there were people stationed around the course for safety reasons and when you came close to the end of your ride one would jump on the running board and operate the car up to the queue, there was a throttle control on the side of the engine cowling and they would take control of the steering wheel. It ran outside of the park itself in what is now the parking lot along Beach Bl. across from Independence Hall. Good Times ✌️

When your talking about how long it takes to get attractions built today and it was so quick back then. Today I would say it’s an act of congress to get anything built with permitting, inspections, zoning requirements and a board of directors for everything. The newest Autopia cars are just ugly 🤮. The orginal design was the best! That style 👍🏻 So my question is: the original cars steering was it easy to steer? At Disney world the Tomorrowland raceway steering is the pits! I feel like I’m 5 years old driving those lol! Not been to Disneyland how do those steer? Great video really enjoyed it!
@disfarers19 күн бұрын
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! However, I really didn't come across much first hand experience with the original M1 through M4's. So I can't answer your question about the steering. My guess is that they were tougher to turn, but then, given the way mechanics were back then, it would have been what everyone would have assumed it would be (if that makes sense). I was able to explain in the video that the steer was worked and tweaked, so I suppose people like Bob Gurr knew it would be improved. As for the Tomorrowland Speedway at MK, I actually know less than you would expect. I know it wasn't given the same amount of attention as Autopia, so my research didn't pull me in that direction. In fact, my original idea was to make a Tomorrowland Speedway episode, but all of the information pulled me towards Autopia, so I just made the episode focus on Disneyland. Thanks again for watching and commenting! You're awesome!

This made me smile. And your comment is actually a relief. When I started making this episode I repeatedly paid attention whenever I overheard anyone talking about Autopia and all I ever seemed to hear were people saying they wanted it gone or that it shouldn't be in Tomorrowland. And I don't think I ever heard anyone ever talking about the Tomorrowland Speedway, which also gave me pause after some months. But I figured I like them, so there must be others like me. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

realistically, they could do an electric vehicle and make the loading station the recharge point. With some engineering, they could create a slot a probe drops into that charges the battery of each car without exposing passengers to the electric current. Alternatively, they could redesign the guide rail all together. Sure, ti would be a little thicket, but if you redesign the guides under the cars to always maintain contact with the track, you could hide power points underneath the track. You'd only need batteries in the car to maintain power for the various times a complete circuit may break (potentially up to 50% of the time the vehicle is moving.)

If Disney actually makes a decent thrill ride I’ll die 😂😂 And I swear if one person comments saying Disney is for kids I’ll remind you the kids aren’t paying 200$ a day to go give adults SOMETHING those are the people spending endless amount of money in your parks not the kids. The 4-5Gs is actually vertical Gs on the first inversion, not the acceleration of the launch. That usually is only around 1.5Gs at best (The ride’s acceleration is not linear, it kicks hard then tapers off) Not even the strongest accelerating coaster launches ever made have hit 4-5Gs. For reference Dododonpa’s insane 0-112mph in 1.56 seconds produced ~3.5Gs of acceleration

Great video! Just one thing- 19:47 the ride actually uses a linear induction motor (LIM) launch system, rather than a linear synchronous motor (LSM) one. LIMs and LSMs are very similar, and they are both types of linear motor electromagnetic technology used to launch rollercoasters. The difference is that LIMs are the older and less refined system, launching trains using a "pulsing" of electromagnets, which is what causes the "shaking" or "rattling" of the train back and forth during the launch (because of the constant attraction and repulsion). LSMs (think of the system on Tron and Hagrid's in Universal) are the newer, more precise, and smoother version of LIMs, which allow for more control of exact launch speed for each specific train. Both are incredibly durable and reliable launch systems, they just differ ever so slightly in the way the magnets are powered. The system you described in the video is the LIM system, you just called it the wrong name. No biggie though, the systems accomplish the same thing in *almost* the same way :D
