Elle Duncan breaks down the evolution of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook's relationship over the years. The former Oklahoma City Thunder All-Stars navigated highs and lows throughout their early NBA careers as teammates-- including a trip to the 2012 NBA Finals (1:26), the James Harden trade (1:56), Durant's 2014 MVP Season (2:49), and the 2016 Western Conference Finals (3:22), where OKC lost to the Warriors despite taking a commanding 3-1 series lead.
After falling to the Warriors, Kevin Durant opted to enter free agency (3:54) and join the Warriors. ESPN's Stephen A. Smith (4:25) viewed the move in free agency to the team that had just defeated Durant as 'the weakest move he's ever seen from a superstar'.
Elle Duncan breaks down the former teammates' efforts to move on after KD's free agency decision, including Durant's eventual return to OKC as a Warrior (7:09), and quite a few subtle (6:30, 6:57, 7:41) and not-so-subtle (5:55, 7:18, 9:15) jabs at each other. Elle (9:39) eloquently concludes with closing thoughts on The Split of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.

Noel Crenshaw Since you want to be a smartass Noel, there are four definitions of “relationship”. The definition that I was clearly saying (and 95 other people clearly understood) was the one of which where an emotional and sexual association is made between two people. I.E, a couple in today’s language, or boyfriends. It’s obviously a relationship, everyone has relationships with pretty much everyone. But not everyone has relationships in the fashion of which ESPN is creating a parallel too with Russ and KD. If you’re gonna try to be a smartass, at least be good at it so you don’t look so absurdly stupid next time. Get out of my mentions Noel.

@@CarlosGarcia-pm1sk no they didn't. They had KD. Russ wasn't an mvp until KD left. And harden would never have become the player he is until he left. He would never get the shots he does now. When they were all on OK C they were all young. Now the jazz had Karl Malone and John Stockton to anchor their team. 2 of the best at their position Karl is the 2nd leading scorer of all time John Stockton leading assist and still leader. Role players for days. O not to mention Jerry salone the most underrated coach. The jazz home court advantage is far superior to OKC

As a San Antonio Spurs fan I'd love to see Kevin Durant, Russel Westbrook, James Harden and Serge Ibaka come back together to finish their careers. As a fan of a small market franchise this team would've at least won 3 titles together if they would stayed together the way the Spurs did.

Bra. Westbrook is a toxic erratic stat-padding leader. He only stayed in OKC because it served him, not because he is loyal. He continued being loyal to OKC after they traded Harden. He screamed and shouted at colleagues. He stifled players growth. Glad KD & Harden left. Others are doing better now that he is gone. He won't even take advice from Magic

Real talk. After the Harden departure, KD and Russ had 4 chances to get to the finals. Two of them had one of them miss significant time due to a foot injury to KD and a Pat Beverly to Russ’ knee. The last year was against a 73-9 Warriors team that no one expected them to beat until 3-1. The last year was when the Spurs trashed the Heat in 5... but they lost that 4-2 cuz Ibaka was out. Their coaching wasn’t good w Scott Brooks and you only played 7 players on that Game 7 where you have Dion Waiters 39 min of playing time. We really gonna trash the two of them for that?

I never saw KD and Russell Westbrook as a duo I always saw KD, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden as a trio and I think James Harden was the glue but once the glue was gone or traded to another team and Russell and kd were left to be a duo I think that’s when they fell apart they were never meant to be a duo they were so are we supposed to be a trio with the man in the middle who kept them together. It’s very sad though they made such an amazing team hi always ask myself what if they had all stay together.
