Yeah true. I remember playing a minstrel at around 2011 when the game became f2p., later on they changed the skillsystem. I also remeber being very very weak, even asking for help for lvl 15 quests; after the changes with the skill system i became nearly immortal, even killing champions or hunters in duels because the impact of the skill system was so massive.

This is the first MMORPG I played when I was starting college. It's a fantastic game and lore. They manage to make you enter Middle Earth and feel like you are part of the world without being the savior; the one-ring story moves along with you. I hope these new servers bring more new players into it.

lol!.. ive played this game for 13 yrs now.. the part where you are in the cave escorting that lady who was walkin sooooo slowwww, thats sara oakhart, she is kinda a meme in the "takin your time " section, had me lol'ing, there is so much more to this game, the community is great, there is a music community(where you can thru the ingame system , play actual songs on diff instuments.. so. picture a hobbit jammin out some metallica,(i can , have over 1000 songs i can play), the fellowships you join to kill big bosses, and just the scencery ,if you do decide to keep playing.. the best advice i can give you is...take your time, look around , enjoy the game, you got a like and subscribe for this one !

@@CaffeinatedDad I'm on the Mordor server, it's great to actually play an official EU server again - plus 64 bit rather than 32 which helps. Less lag issues and the new event system is great too.

I find the cash shop not really a big deal, since you can actually earn lotro point through questing and finishing deeds. You can save Lotro points to unlock new content, which less of an issue then when you Need to purchase to be able to progress.

​@@CaffeinatedDad No spoilers, but she pops up all over the Shadows of Angmar area (original base game), and the Epic Quest line will give you the final ending of her story....My favorite of the Turbine (Before SSG) created Middle Earth stories....it just feels so Middle Earth and I think Tolkien would have approved.

One thing about the Cash shop, you dont actually have to spend real money to buy things from the shop. You earn Coins from doing Achievments with your Character and you can do them with every new character over and over again.

You really should go VIP and join a legendary server, they are buzzing with new players, progression server, 64-bit little lag, max level 50 at first. And since you enjoy a challenge, they also have special dynamic event with lesser wraiths spawning all around landscape. (Server Angmar and Mordor)

2000s MMOs are magical, when they were getting lots of investment and development. However players were mostly too addicted to leave WoW to give other games the success they deserved. The ones still standing had a very dedicated playerbase willing to make a home there.

Because none of the live action movies/shows have ever used Tom Bombadil. It is not surprising that most people would not know who he is. Lol calling Tom a guy who might be the god in that universe a hobbit. Lol that is funny. Also, that red boarder around the characters portrait means elite. Color of name means level comparied to yours. Pretty sure Diamon and skulls in the red boarder means boss. Glad you are enjoying LotRO. I think it is a good mmo and I wish more people would give it a try.

It's been quite a while since I played this. Also, Read the books if you've ANY interest in the lore of LotR. Seriously. They left Tom Bombadil out of the films because no one, and I mean NO one knows what or who he really is. Tolkien said that every story should have at least one total enigma and that Tom is "unexplainable". All we know is that he's powerful, The ring has no effect on him and he can one-shot wights.

i will add since this got me to start playing; they recently added new servers for subs (at least for the moment) that in short, are much better than the f2p servers. havent had an issue with server lag on the new us server. that jank has kinda been there for a while given how niche and old the game is from my understanding

We actually play the same game GW2 & LOTRO, but I played LOTRO first. Took a pause of all MMOs for work/job reasons. If we only have more than 24hrs =)

Lemme explain the mob color coding a little: There are 2 ways to see if an enemy is hostile and will attack or warn you about attacking when getting to close: On the Minimap: Hostile mobs are marked as red dots, non-hostiles are not marked there at all. Character Frame of your currently selected target: The health bar of a hostile mob is red, while neutral mobs have a yellow HP bar and friendly NPCs are green. The names above the mobs only refer to their level in relation to your current level. Green mobs are way below your level only above grey names which make them not attack you at all anymore even if usually hostile and won't give XP. The hues of blues are somewhat to slightly below your level. White name means it's ON your level and yellow, orange, red and purple are increasingly above your level. The frame you saw when clicking an enemy (the spider in the video) tells you if it's a normal creature or an Elite, Miniboss, Boss, Special (Rare) Enemy, etc. Quest mobs can only be identified in the Tooltip, that shows up when hovering over them. It should list your current quests (and deeds) you will progress by killing it. Hope that explains some stuff and glad you enjoy! :D

Great video man, As a 17 yr Lotro player & wow before that & EQ before that...imo Lotro is the best mmo right now for my llife since I have so many classes near max & with lifetime sub it is a game that I always come back to the small staff at standing stone games are remarkable ...they bring quests that are awesome & the epic book quests are great & they get better and better. I cannot wait for legacy of Morgoth as we are going to learn about the evil that knda made Sauron who that evil entity was. There is soooo much in this world it will take atleast a year playing everyday to find all the lore maybe longer... This game has everything from, gollums cave to Mordor where you wil;l become !!!! GOLLUM & THROW THE RING OF THE CLIFF & SEE WHAT THE FELLOWSHIP GOES THROUGH in the movies & books ... I urge you to keep playing at your own pace but you will never have a better feeling & end game pvmp is so fun along with the 6-12 instances are good as a wow player you know. I hope you try to focus on the epic quests AND stories you will feel amazing... Enjoy and thanks for making this video.

I played this in beta and at release. I played off and on the first few years along with WoW (I'm not tribalistic) and then when Cataclysm released I mainly played LOTRO. The initial version of F2P wasn't that bad honestly, but I feel it's gotten more annoying over the years. I also play GW2 though and find some of their needs to go to a cash shop just as annoying. I think LOTRO's UI system is what really made me think differently of WoW. In WoW they "need" some person to make these QoL features on their own time while in LOTRO and FFXIV the devs implement this themselves. It just made me view Blizzard as mooching off their player base. The things I still love about this game are the player created events like "Weatherstock", the in-game holidays, and the housing areas. I really like the neighborhoods in LOTRO better than FFXIV.

I believe that Tolkien denied that Tom was a Maiar in his letters, and deliberately left Tom's identity an enigma. From things Tom himself and other knowledgeable characters say, it seems he was in the world before the Valar and Maiar entered it. His Elvish name means "the oldest and fatherless", suggesting that he has been a part of the world since its creation. He is an intersection point; an intrusion of a different kind of fantasy into the adventure-fantasy of the quest of the Ring.

Any tips for people moving from controller to mouse and keyboard for this game? GW2 was a relatively easier adjustment as it had the action cam button. Found a configuration on Steam but the camera control made me feel seasick.

I am prepared to acknowledge that intervening updates have probably improved some things, but everything I recall from my long-ago new player experience in the Shire is...well, dire. Bears literally falling from the sky to attack you, the worst escort quests in all of MMO-land, poor class balance, and a generally slow, plodding experience. (I know CaffDad touched on the escort quests, but I don't think he knows the half of it. Nobody really likes escort quests, but after more than a decade of other annoying escort NPCs, I still remember my disgust with Lalia.)
