What surprises me is that although Apophis in reality had no followers, the gods have to defeat followers of Apep in Egyptian Myths. For example, in one of the Egyptian papyri ("the tale of the wandering goddess"), the sun goddess in the form of a gazelle is described as being chased by Apophis and his followers before being rescued by the god Khonsu, who skins the followers alive and apparently eats their skin.

snakes are one of the scariest animals. they can kill us with a single bite, and we don't always see them coming. there's something in the human psyche that is deeply wary of snakes. also, many mythologies are connected, either having a common source (all of europe and india and mesopotamian mythologies descend from the same origin) or stories travel and are shared.
@FoolishPrinceАй бұрын
In my opinion, Mi'lord, a big snake is what everything is: the "ouroboros"/serpent eating it's tail. Everything comes from the earth, and therefore is "earth": yet life can only exist by devouring other forms of that earth, so we are essentially eating ourselves with the transference of one energy into another, both the physical realm and spiritual realm. Born, live, die: the beginning is the end which is the beginning and what you are now is the mediator of that beginning and end. This idea extends even further: for the earth is part of the cosmos, so in a sense, we are nothing but "stardust". The stars are angels, after losing to Micahael the Arc, they were cast to the earth. We are those stars, made manifest in physical form. Eventually will return to our first estate then plummet back down when we burn out. Adam was formed from the earth(dust): the serpent was formed from the earth: Adam sinned and cursed to toil the earth all of his days until dying and return to the earth(dust). The serpent/shining one, was delimbed, cursed to crawl on its belly all of its days eating the dust(earth)= Ouroboros. We are creatures in Limbo, you and I. We were here for the beginning, we are here now and will be there in the end. There is no escape, there is only change and perception: "death" is nothing more than being devoured and your current form/vessel being an end. "Life" is the realization that we are all "one", and when you/I leave the current vessel, it will physically feed and build life, and our spirits/souls/"energy" will find it's place somewhere else back in cycle. Together you, I and everything in Existence are all part of "The one true God" (or the devil, depending on your point of view), an ever expanding and "evolving"/changing form of consciousness. Love yourself, Love others, change what you can and accept what you can't. Because we are all different then we are in fact all the same, and everything is beautiful. "Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh"- I AM THAT I AM 🃏

Apep is a great motivator to be honest, I see it that he was preparing the gods and souls for a greater threat and humans seen him as an evil god like being so they slandered him and weakened him to be slain and reborn. Sure, he was annoyed for some upstart god or goddess to suddenly switch a bright light on while they enjoyed life, but I think he had seen something that would threaten Ancient Egyptian culture and decided to become a 'villain' test the gods and human worshippers for their fidelity....which ultimately failed them. I hate it when my Aspie brain goes off on one, lol.

Do you think the Egyptians chose Apophis as a cobra and made him a being before creation because, before the civilization of Egypt existed, cobras most likely were one of the biggest dangers to people when everything was chaotic? It was a creature you should look for but not a high priority because there were worse things to worry about in the chaos. But when Egpyt was starting to form, there was order in the chaos, but cobras don't do; their nature is chaos, and they thrive in chaos. So they made Apophis to be killed on sight to make everyone aware of venomous snakes coming and killing them on sight. Just a thought not concrete or based on any fact
